Welcome

In October 1838 a railway line ran from the Potsdamer Platz to Potsdam. Berlin got its first railway.

Das Berliner Bahn-Konzept von 1900 hatte eine entscheidende Lücke

City line 1882 - The first viaduct railway in one of Europes metropolises caused a sensation.

The destruction by the war, reparation and the partition of Germany left merely a torso of what once was an exemplary railway net.

The West and the East each developed its own logistic infrastructure, which were connected only at one point, the railway station Friedrichstraße.

After the fall of the wall, the traffic planners developed the new rail concept for Berlin. The structure of the same reminds you of a mushroom.

The German railway makes a great dream of traffic planners comes true.

The 3,5 kilometre four-track tunnel stretch between Spree and Landwehr Canal was built on 1,270 metres using the tunnelling shield method.

At the Lenne-Triangle as well as at the Gleis-triangle, a special construction method was used: The tunnel segments were built above surface as closed “caissons” and then flushed into the ground.

The 3,5 kilometre four-track tunnel stretch between Spree and Landwehr Canal was built on 2,130 metres in open construction.

This station gives regional express passengers access to the commercial and business area around the Leipziger and Potsdamer Platz (Squares).

The Berlin Gesundbrunnen Station (in the North) is Berlin´s new gate to the Baltic.

Südkreuz will be Berlin´s first address in the South of the city.

Ostbahnhof is Berlin´s first address in the East of the city.

Spandau is the western departure point for express trains to Hamburg and Hannover . It lets passengers change directly between long-distance and regional expresses, S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains.

Studies predict that the Main Station will be used by 240.000 passengers daily.

The Platforms of the Lehrter Bahnhof were covered by an impressive hall-type roof.

The old Lehrte Station was built between 1869 and 1871 for the line between Berlin and Lehrte, near Hannover.

For decades, only the name of the nearby S-Bahn Station “Lehrter Stadtbahnhof” recalled the erstwhile express station in the heart of Berlin.

The Main station combines all the elements of the modern mobile society in its open architecture. It offers a new mixture of travel, discovery, encounters, work and life.

The new Lehrte Station is a symbol of the New Berlin. The Reichstag, the office of the Federal chancellor and the offices of the members of the Bundestag as well as the federal Ministries and Embassies are only a few steps away.

The central design principle of the Lehrter Bahnhof is the prominent emphasis of the existing railway tracks in the urban landscape. Large filigree glass roofs as well as two bridging office buildings translate this principle with architectural means.

The architecture of the new main station is filigreed, generous, bathed in light.

There is a photo-voltaic system built into the station roof. Like the glass planes on the roof, each one of the solar cells is of a different size.

The city rail line at the main station is being moved about one kilometre southwords from the former line and taken over newly built bridges.

A very elegant form of construction was chosen for the bridges section of the city viaduct. For the first time supports of a combination of rolled and cast steel were used

One after the other a total of nine sites with an area of 90000 square metres was excavated. This corresponds to size of eleven soccer fields.

On two separate weekends in July and August of 2005, structural frames were installed, supporting the structure above the east-west tracks.

The ground-water management system takes care that conditions in the ground under Berlin are stable. This is good for the countless old buildings traditionally built on oak foundations.
