Allowing children to experience this species first hand is not only a rare and excing educaonal opportunity, but we also find that children retain a wide range of details which can help save a hedgehogs’ life in the future. For example Bonfire Night is an extremely fun me for the children, although this period is challenging for most species as loud bangs can be scary for all animals. During our programmes we emphasize the importance of checking through piles before burning them as a bonfire in case any hedgehogs have sought refuge in them over night! Giving our younger generaon the opportunity to experience animals in a hands-on environment can be an effecve form of educaonal enrichment. Allowing them to empathise with a species can allow them to open their minds to how their decisions can affect others. We believe education is vital for animal welfare and the future of our country’s wildlife

School Visits

At Woodlands Animal Sanctuary our fully trained sta are available to visit local schools to provide education and enrichment in the classroom. Our sta work daily with each animal and have developed amazing relationships with them meaning they are incredibly knowledgeable about their welfare and conservation. Each school visit can consist of between one and three species of animal, from our hedgehogs, goats, ponies or donkeys!

Our school visits provide children with:

Exciting hands-on activities providing education and enrichment in the classroom

An opportunity to ask experts about UK wildlife and how they can help with conservation.

Sanctuary Visits

A visit to Woodlands Animal Sanctuary gives children a chance to encounter our animals outside the classroom. They will have the opportunity to learn first hand about how a sanctuary operates and have the chance to interact with the animals whilst learning how best to consider their welfare. This experience can provide life lessons that we believe are vital to the future of UK wildlife. Visits range from 1-3 hours in the afternoon and are tailor made to suit you and your class.

Our sanctuary visits generally consist of:

A presentation about our sanctuary and residents allowing children to ask any questions they may have.

An opportunity to take part in hands-on activities such as goat/chicken feeding, pony grooming and more

In the past 11 years we have taken or rehabilitated over 5000 animals

Woodlands Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity based in Holmeswood, Lancashire. Operating since 2005, our mission is to care and rehabilitate injured, sick or neglected animals.
