PCB Exchange includes facilities for validation of the printed circuit board structure.

PCBExchangefacilitatesmodelingofaprintedcircuitboardwithintheNXdigitalproductdevelopmentsystem.Theresultingdatacanbeexported,usingseveralprotocols,totheECADsystem.OnceanNXassemblyhasbeencreated,itisaccessiblebyallNXapplicationsfordesignreview,assembly,tolerancechecksandsimulation.

Modeling PC boards in NXPCBExchangetoolsandNXdesignapplica-tionslikeFlexiblePrintedCircuitDesignmakeiteasytomodelflexibleorrigidprintedcircuitassemblies.BoardsandcomponentsaremodeledusingstandardpartmodelingpracticeswithNX.AnassemblyoftheboardandcomponentsiscreatedwithintheNXapplication,andthePCBExchangetoolbarfacilitatesidentificationofadditionalboardand

TheMCAD/ECADexchangeprocessistypicallyinitiatedinNXusingthePCBExchangeapplication.AuserexportstheinitialPCBlayoutandkeycomponentlocations,aswellasinformationaboutholesandrestrictionareastoanECADsystem.BecausethetranslatordirectlyusesexistingPCBlayoutdata,thetaskofinterpretingandre-enteringinformationiseliminated.TheuseoftheNXPCBExchangemoduleresultsinfewererrors,fasterturnaroundtimeandeliminationoftediousworkformechanicaldesigners.

WithinNX,amechanicaldesignercandefinetheboardshapeandpre-placecriticalcomponentssuchasconnectors,switches,displaysandLEDsusingthestandardassemblyanddesigncapabilities.Then,usingPCBExchangetools,thedesignercandefinekeep-in/outregionsaswellasotherboardandcomponentattri-butes.ThepreliminaryPCBdesignisthentransferredtoanECADsystemforthePCBdesignertouseasthebasisfortheboardlayout.AftertheremainingcomponentsareplacedintheECADsystem,theupdatedboardcanbepassedbacktoNX.

ThemechanicaldesignerisgiventheopportunitytocomparethechangeswiththepreviousversionandupdatethemodelinNXasnecessary.BringingthedesignbackintotheMCADspaceallowsthemechanicaldesignertoensuretheboardassemblyfitsintothefinalproductpack-age.MultipleiterationsofthisbasicdesigndataflowbetweenECADandMCADsystemstypicallyoccurduringtheproductdesignphase.PCBExchangemakesiteasytotransfercomplexPCBassemblydatabetweenNXandECADpackages.

• AdditionalelectricalfeaturescanbeimportedfromGenCADmanufacturingfiles.

• TightercollaborationcanbeachievedwithZukenCR-5000usingthePCBExchangeforZukenadd-onmodule.

WhendataisimportedfromECAD,PCBExchangewillautomaticallycreateextrudedcomponentfootprintstocreate3Dpartsandcorrectlypositioninstancesofthesepartsontheboardassembly.However,ifavailable,itcanalsousedetailedcomponentsavailableinTeamcenterpartfolderstocreatePCBassemblies.TeamcenterisasoftwaresolutionfamilyfromSiemensthatenablesenterprisestocapture,manage,access,integrateandleveragediversetypesofproductinformationinaweb-nativeenvironment.componentattributesforexchange

withanECADsystem,suchasReferenceDesignators.PCBExchangeprovidesthetoolstoidentifyboardcomponents,drilledholesandrestriction(keep-inandkeep-out)areas.ThePCDesignNavigatorofPCBExchangepresentsadynamiclistofthePCBassemblyfeatures,whichcanbehighlightedandediteddirectlywithinthenavigator.Furthermore,PCBExchangechecksyourPCBassemblyandgeneratesHTMLwebreportsthatareloadedauto-maticallywithinthebrowsertaboftheNXresourcebarworkspace.

Downstream thermal analysis with NX Electronics Systems CoolingPCBExchangeautomaticallygeneratesboardthermalmodels,readytobesolvedusingNXElectronicsSystemsCooling.Userscancontrolthedefaultcomponentparameters,boardmeshsizeandcolor,andenvironmentalconditions.Bypointingtoauserdatabaseofcomponentthermalproperties,PCBExchangecreatesasuit-ablemodelforeachelectricalcomponent.Modeltypesinclude:• 0-resistoror“singleload”models• 1-resistormodels• JEDEC2-resistormodels
