WWelcome to WinchelseaWinchelsea is an historic town situated on thebeautiful Sussex coast. Positioned on Iham Hill it hasspectacular views to the sea and inland across theBrede Valley. The town is one of the best preservedmedieval Bastide towns in Britain, founded in the late13th century by Edward I as a port. It replaced ‘OldWinchelsea’ which was lost to the rising sea.
What you can see and do: Lying between Rye andHastings is a beautiful area of countryside and coastline withleisure options to suit all interests.
The great outdoors: There is an extensive network of short-and long-distance walking trails, national cycling routes,water sports and nature reserves. For the less energetic thereare long beaches, secluded countryside, places to picnic orcountry pubs to while away the afternoon.
Family days out: South East England is renowned for itsgardens and vineyards but there are also castles, steamrailways and a host of other family attractions within a shortdistance of Winchelsea.
Hastings and Rye: If you wish to take a break from thecountryside, simply hop on a train or bus to the nearbyhistoric Cinque Ports of Hastings and Rye with theirmuseums and family attractions, shops, restaurants andnightlife.
