An unexpected box filled with children’s edu-cational literature, left without any notice atthe entrance of a Uitenhage play school, madeDarweesha Rockman feel overwhelmed bythis kindhearted gesture.

“It really brought tears to my eyes. I wasso surprised to find the box filled with story-books and flash cards,” said Darweesha Rock-man.

She saw the box, nicely wrapped and placednext to the gate, whilst on her way to fetchtheir daughter from school.

“At first I thought it had been delivered tothe wrong address.

I’ve asked around, but still don’t know who

dropped off the box. All I know is that this per-son really cares for books.

“We love books. To get books as a gift is abig thing to us as literature is knowledge,”said Darweesha.

She is in the process of restructuring herKooWee Kids Educare at 57 Dunn Road inLevyvale. One of the new additions to the playschool will be a library corner for kids.

According to her the books all are in a goodcondition and there are even brand new ones.

“I have no way of thanking the person forthis wonderful gesture. This kind of kind-heartedness you do not see very often wherepeople do something without getting a thankyou.

“Whoever dropped off these books - I wishto thank from the bottom of my heart.”

Stelios Sissou is SA’s fastest man over onekilometre, breaking the 1 000 metre barrierwith an official speed of 346.3 km/h at ODIRaceway last Sunday.

The Gautengbusinessman shat-tered his 2014record for street-le-gal cars in his Bil-stein-backed 1200kW Nissan GT-R35 at the annualOne Kilometre In-vitational.

An enthusiasticcrowd, whichflocked to the popu-lar Pretoria drag-strip to see over 100of the country’sfastest cars in ac-tion, erupted intospontaneous ap-plause as the com-mentator an-nounced the result.

With his own

record of 337 km/h and a strong contingentof GT-R35 rivals to beat, the car underwentfurther refinements, primarily an upgrade toBilstein’s sophisticated Modular Damper Sys-tem (MDS) suspension which allows fine-tun-ing of the shock absorbers. The rate of com-

pression and extension (commonly referredto as bump and rebound) as well as ride heightcan be adjusted.

This enables start-line traction to be opti-mised, while at the same time ensuring maxi-mum stability at velocities beyond the take-

off speed of a jet fighter.“The Modular Damper System is Bilstein’s

flagship product for high-performance cars. Itallows for quick and easy changes to bumpand rebound via colour-coded rotary adjust-ers and with a little more effort ride heightcan also be altered,” explains Bilstein’s TedGarstang.

According to Stelios, he went for a very con-servative start strategy and didn’t use launchcontrol.

“But when it did all hook up it was like rid-ing a rocket ship - talk about warp speed! I’vealready decided that we’ll be back next yearto defend our crown … and not just to winbut break 350 km/h,” concluded Stelios.

Organiser Hennie du Toit said all Volks-wagen vehicles prior to the year 2000 are in-vited to take part in the motorcade and logoday. This includes cars ranging from the air-cooled Beetles, Kombis, trikes, KarmannGhia, Citi Golf, Fox, Caddy, Passat and Poloup to 1999 models.“We hope to exceed and improve on theprevious logo attempt during 2011 when itwas the 60th anniversary of Volkswagen ofSouth Africa,” said Du Toit.All participants will meet at the VWAuto-Pavillion on September 20th. Themotorcadewill commence at 09:00 and follow a pre-planned route alongAlgoaRoad intoDurbanStreet, Market Street, Caledon Street andthenon to theR75 towardsDespatch. The for-mation of the VW logo will be held at theFrans Conradie Primary school sports field.RenownedVWhistorian, JohnLemonwillbe in attendance during this year’s attempt.“We alsowant to invite the elderly citizensfromRosaMunch, Aandmymering andHuisNajaar to be passengers during the motor-cade as part of our community service.”

In the past the organisers experienced someproblems in taking aerial photos of the com-pleted logo, but this year they hope to set upa few static cameras to closely follow thebuilding of the logo.

A sound competi-tionwill be held andthere will be foodstalls. Registrationto participate is R50per vehicle and theentrance fee for vis-itors R10 per per-son.
