My skoene, klere, tot my selfoon. ’n Mens wonder of ds.
Daniel JosuaPienaar.
Netelige beginDie eerste skoolgebou is in 1895 in Cuyler-
Die eerste skoolhoof (toe superintendentgenoem) was was mnr.
Huidige skoolkampusDie skoolgeboue in Laer Cuylerstraat was
OudskoliereDaniel Pienaar spogmet verskeie oudskoli-

“It is not all about singing. As a choir we makean impact on our audiences through what andhow we perform. We sing to send out a mes-sage of hope.”
These are the words of Siphosihle Bosman, deputy chairperson of the Mary Mount Catho-lic High School choir, which since the begin-ning of the year has been under the baton ofyoung choir conductor Rufus-Jayson Ma-cLean.
Currently a student at the Nelson MandelaMetropolitan University, Maclean was re-quested by Mary Mount’s Head of DepartmentSusan Boyce to assist with the school choir.
“Choirs are near to my heart. I did my train-ing under the well-known Juanita van Dykfrom NMMU and now would like to ploughback what she has instilled in me,” saidMcLean.
More than a hundred learners turned up forthe auditions as the school does not have a lotof extramural activities. MacLean started the
Mary Mount with 28 talented young singers.“It is difficult to get the learners involved
in the more disciplined Western feel of achoir. I am left with a smaller group, but theyare immensely dedicated and talented.”
Although just four months have elapsedsince the inception of the choir, they alreadyhave a full schedule and recently performedat Rosa Munch Old Age Home as part of thechoir’s Easter outreach programme.
According to Aphiwe Citwa, chairperson ofthe choir, the performance at Rosa Munchwas “a great idea as we do care a lot aboutour senior citizens.”
Maclean said, “Singing is a talent that Godblessed us with. We need to share it and makea difference right here in town. We want togive senior citizens hope and show them thatthere are people out there caring for them,”said MacLean.
The Mary Mount choir’s next performancewill be at Despatch high school on April 22ndand thereafter at the annual Voce VolenteFestival which will be held at Westering HighSchool early in May.
