ANNEXURE 'A' Nature of Work/Area of Specialization (with reference to SI.No.lo of application format)

1) As CMD, NLCIL (01.10.201S - 31.07.2018)

❖ Held the post of Chairman and Managing Director and headed NLC India Limited, a

premier Navratna company of Government of India (with a market cap of INR 11,908

Crores employing around 28,000 people as on 31.07.2018) engaged in mining of

lignite, coal and generation of electricity from lignite, coal and renewable sources -

solar and wind in various parts of the country.

❖ Also held the post of Chairman of NLC Tamilnadu Power Limited, a coal based power

JV between NLCIL and TANGEDCO operating a 1000 MW power plant at Tuticorin (TN)

at present and Chairman of Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL) a JV

company between NLCIL and UPRVUNL, engaged in construction of a 1980 MW super

critical coal based power project in Kanpur, UP.

❖ Led above three companies in power sector with upstream captive mining. As CMD

handled the business activities of a miner cum power generator PSU (NLC India) which

supplied electricity to southern States/Discoms and also to the State of Rajasthan.

❖ As a business leader, expanded the business portfolio of the company in various parts

of the country by adding huge capacity in mining (lignite and coal) and power

generation from lignite, coal and renewables in a big way transforming Neyveli

Lignite Corporation to NLC India Limited as an energy major with PAN India

presence.

❖ Led the company to achieve record breaking growth in all fronts with capacity

addition of 70.15 MTPA in mining (69% growth) and 5731 MW in power (thermal and

renewables) (110% growth) and also entered into power trading. The Company saw a

revenue growth of 85% and a PBT growth of 20% over last 3 years.

❖ Leadership and HR aligned strategic decision making for business success.

❖ Head of HR for the entire company- NLC having a total manpower of 14059 on

❖ Thirty eight years of working in premier CPSEs (Maharatnas and Navratnas) of India

- BHEL (Engineering), NTPC (Power), NTPC SAIL JV (Power) and NLCIL (Mining and

Power) in various capacities in fields/projects (25 years), at corporate (S years) and

on Board (8 years) has given me intensive insights to business processes and

practices in varied contexts.

❖ A strong business acumen with understanding of principles and polices of ethical

governance has been my USP and fairness and transparency have been my guiding

beacons.

❖ My performance and contribution to the corporate business world has been

acknowledged and acclaimed with many awards and recognitions ( including two

international awards, three life time achievement awards and conferment of two

doctorate degrees) from institutions of repute in India and abroad (List at

❖ As Chairman and Managing Director, NLC India Limited (since 01.10.2015)

I happened to be the first worker of this Navratna Company of Government of

India with a present market cap of around Rs.11,908 Crs. employing about 28,000

people (directly and indirectly) engaged in Mining of lignite, Coal and generation of

electricity at various places in the country.

❖ I also held the post of Chairman, NLC-Tamilnadu Power Limited (NTPL), a coal

captive mining and power generation.

❖ Brought huge transformation in the company giving it a new identity, (transiting

from Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited to NLC India Limited) by expanding and

diversifying its business portfolio to various parts of the country adding

substantial capacity in mining and power generation (from lignite, coal and

renewables) in a big way to make this company an energy major with PAN India

presence.

Director on Board for a period of 4 years and 10 months and before that, as stated,

I worked in various executive capacities in NTPC, NTPC-SAIL Power Company and

I have been contributing to business excellence through innovative people

processes and practices.
