In the United States, applicants always start to prepare for their college applications in the spring of junior year. Using a wider span of time allows students to think upon which schools, out of the thousands of schools presented before them, will be the per-fect school to try and enroll into. To complete the application process, there are just a few steps that students should follow in order to enroll into their dream school.
First, make sure to list out what you think is important in a school.
Think, “Where do I want to enroll?” There are lots of choices in choosing from universities and colleges but you must think about which type of school system works for you. You will want to think about going to a school outside of your hometown and how big the school is. Of course, besides physical appearance, the tuition is also a key factor into your choice. Do you like the sports clubs around the school? How about the suburban area surrounding your view? These are questions you need to ask yourself before choosing your school. After thinking about all the properties of schools, list out your needs.
Second, after listing your priorities, find schools that fit these criterions.
Talk to your school counselor about your list and they can give you information on how to find schools that fit with your list. They can give you books from their office, but going to the internet to find information is also helpful. College Board (www.col-legeboard.com) and Peterson’s (www.petersons.com) can help you find the school you would like to apply to. After finding the school you want to go to, go to the school’s official website of the school and see if it is the one.
Third, from the list of schools you have found, start to visit them.
“Seeing is believing” When looking for the best school for you, use your breaks wisely to visit colleges. Rather than through the internet, physically going to the school allows you to have a better understanding of the school. Visiting the open houses given by schools during summer break or even some Saturdays is an important step when choosing your school. However, if you need to take a plane to get to the campus, it may be wiser to find a video and/or a tour pamphlet to get to know the school. Also, a conversation between students who are currently attending the school and between a tour guide is very helpful.
Fourth, summarize the list of schools that you think you will surely get admitted to.
After visiting the schools of your choice, it is always important to have a few safety colleges. Looking at the schools you have selected to apply to, make a final decision on which colleges you will apply for. However, after this is done using your GPA and SAT scores find schools that you can surely enter without problems from your resume. Use the websites and other college resources to find what each college is looking for, and therefore find your safety colleges.
Fifth, follow the whole application process.
To apply early to schools, you will need to follow the admission process for each school you would like to apply to. For example, there are early admission schools which are due on the first on January, second of February, or the fifteenth of March. There are other dates, but according to the school you want to apply to you need to follow their processes.
Sixth, choose your school, based on your admission letters, for the one you want to study from.
Between the end of March and beginning of April, you will receive your admission letters from schools. Then, by May 1st, you will need to decide where to enroll and inform that school. However, this is not as easy as it is stated. Many students will not know which school is the best place for them. For example, students say, “I got admit-ted from A, B, and C. Where should I go?” Then, most people answer by telling them to visit the school, just like when you can’t choose between cars to buy, you drive it.
Even though one person may think that one college is better than another, it is really up to you because you will be the one who will be apply and go there for four years. To prepare for this application, you should start as a junior.

ASK DUCKY
The New England Korean NewsEnglish Version
Dear Ducky,
In school this year, I have noticed that my teachers are not being fair as they grade our tests. For example, there is the one guy in our class who never finishes his test and comes after school to finish. One day, I went in after school for extra help and heard him beg the teacher to help him find the answer. Then my teacher proceeded to give him a hint, but this hint was a very helpful hint. With this one clue the question was solved. As we got our tests back later that week, he got a 100%. So did I, and so did my friend. But one of my other friends got a 99%. That’s where I think this system is unfair. That boy who went in and basically cheated off of the teacher gets a perfect, when he should have gotten around a 80% if he didn’t get the last problem. My teacher is very nice, and I know that, but I think he is giving an unfair advantage to his students who take a while. Also, if we finish in class he thinks there is no point in finishing his test up afterschool. Does this mean that we should just all not finish his test then come in after school and get help? I think that boy who got a 100% through asking, needs to learn that he can’t just keep living life that way.
Sincerely, Unfair Grades
Dear Unfair Grades,
Like you said, in the long run the boy will not be able to get a perfect score without the help of the teacher, and your teacher will not always be by his side. In this case, you should keep studying hard and try to finish your test on time, because purposely not finishing your test is abusing your teacher’s kindness. Even though it is annoying to know that he didn’t earn his grade through studying, but actually from your teacher’s studying, there is nothing you can do at this time and therefore all you can do is keep on studying.
Happy studying!Ducky
Dear Ducky,
Today I dream about a ghost following me around. I was so scared! I think he wanted to eat me or something, but I couldn’t wake up. I tried to escape from the park we were running around in, but then I met the ghost again. Why did I dream about a ghost?
Sincerely,Dreamer
Dear Dreamer,
I actually had to research on this topic and found various research that all seemed to be around the fact that ghosts in dreams relate to a spirit that you cannot forget. This may be from a time that was really fun, guilt, or any other strong emotion that you have not forgotten. The reason why you were scared may just be because you are afraid of ghosts in general, but that doesn’t mean your dream has a negative implication.
Keep dreaming,Ducky
Dear Ducky,
I don’t understand my mom because she is so nice to everyone… except for me. She is always
so strict to me and she never, ever, smiles at me. She only cares about my grades and school work. I know this sounds weird, but she smiles more at our cat than she does to me. Well, why does she do that?
Sincerely, Mr. Cat
Dear Mr. Cat,
I am sure that your mom sincerely cares about you and feels that your studies are very impor-tant. Also, your cat is just your pet and is just smiling to your cat. That doesn’t mean you can compare yourself to your cat, your mom doesn’t expect your cat to study and get good grades. In that case, that would explain why she always smiles to your cat, and not you.
Happy studying,Ducky
Dear Ducky,
My father always sleeps at home if he is not working over the break or on the weekend. He never wants to play in our family games or go shopping. We never travel nor do anything fun when we have free time. How can someone like to sleep so much?
Sincerely, Hibernating Bears
Dear Hibernating Bears,
Sleeping is always good, but more importantly once you sleep more than usual, the body wants you to sleep more. That is why, but you should ask your dad to be more awake and in-volve in family activities.
Good luck,Ducky
Dear Ducky,
Why can’t some people just appreciate others when they receive personal or precious informa-tion? They always try to use the information for their own good. Also, they always try to find out information that isn’t any of their business. Isn’t that unfair? Is this how the world works? Why does it have to be this way?
Sincerely, Rumors
Dear Rumors,
It is unfair, but life’s unfair, right? A lot of people may even think that it is fun to change in-formation into a double edged sword, but not all people are like that. Because of those people, you cannot always think that people are like that.
