Fall Rally: Saturday seems like an odd day to be going to school, but there I was with 180 fellow Key Club members at Stuyvesant High School. I had a hard time imagining an international charity club that spans 30 countries. At Fall Rally, I saw Key Club members, officers, and lieutenant governors from all over New York gather. We had workshops and icebreakers, and we learned about what we do and why we do it. There was a $10 admission fee but it didn't go to Fall Rally or Key Club International. Instead, it went to the Thirst Project, helping to bring clean, fresh water to the one billion people in the world who don't have access to healthy water. It felt really good to know that people all over the world were helping to change the world, one person at a time. By: Raymond Chan, SI Tech

Fall Rally by Camille PonceOn September 27, 2014 the Key Clubs of Staten Island met at the ferry to head to

Fall Rally 2014. This year the event was held at Stuyvesant High school from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. My school, Susan E. Wagner, Staten Island Tech and Tottenville High school all represented for Division 10. I’m glad to say that the event was a lot of fun and that it helped me learn more

about why I became a member and move up to club president. Fall Rally began with an opening session from all of the lieutenant governors and then moved on to the first workshop.

Although we had to walk up seven flights of stairs, the energy inside everyone was great to witness. After the first workshop we had to head back to the auditorium to meet the guest speaker who was Evan Wesley. Evan informed us all about the global water crisis and the “Thirst Project”. His words truly influenced the minds of all the key clubbers and made us

appreciate the lives we live here in America. The rest of the event included lunch, three more workshops and icebreaker rotations. The icebreaker rotations would have to be one of my personal favorite parts of Fall Rally. One icebreaker was a fun and easy way to get to know

everybody’s names, while another required us to form a huge circle and run to the other side of it whenever a statement said by the person in the middle was true about ourselves. I got to know more about people I’ve never met before and learned that Key Club is larger than how I used to view it. Fall Rally 2014 was definitely a new, exciting, and informative way to look at

Key Club as a whole."Caring; Our Way of Life"

Light the Night by Katherine GaetaOnce a year at Midland Beach in Staten Island, the Light The Night Walk

fundraising campaign is held in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This event brings friends and families together to honor blood cancer

survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases. Participants are urged to raise and donate $100 dollars to the cause and are able to participate in a walk where they hold balloons. All the proceeds will help advance more breakthrough therapies for

blood cancer patients. When I entered the park where the walkers had gathered, I saw a community coming together to help raise awareness of this disease that has taken the

happiness and lives of our loved ones. The amount of support of the volunteers and walkers was astounding. I was very glad to see the participation of the

community. If we keep taking the steps to bring awareness and donate our time and effort, we can help researchers find a cure and bring the disease to an end.

The lights of all the balloons during the walk also showed how amazing our support could be if we take the time out of our busy schedules to help an amazing cause and to bring honor to those that have survived and the ones we have lost.

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is a inter-governmental charity organization, that helps children across the world that are in danger. Key Club partnered with UNICEF because of all the great work that they do, and because of how highly respected they are.

During October, UNICEF will be sending out Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes. These iconic orange boxes are responsible for UNICEF’s largest fundraiser of the year. Find out more information at UNICEF.org, and learn how you can join in your school!

At our Spring Board Meeting, New York District decided to designate Make-A-Wish as a District Charity.

Make-A-Wish helps children with terminal illness to reach one or more of their lives' goal. Sometimes it is going to Disney, other times it is meeting an athlete, either way Make-A-Wish gets it done. They bring happiness and joy into a life of pain, and they make these children's lives a little better.

Every 38 minutes, a child’s wish is granted through this charity, but there are so many children in need, someone becomes eligible every 19 minutes, but due to a lack of funds, their wish cannot be granted. They hope that we can grant all of these wishes, but they need your help to do that.

This charity would be a great way to help someone in need, so please considering donating.

In the next few weeks there are a few Charity Walks, that are a great opportunity for Key Clubbers to volunteer. You can either join a team, create your own team or help out at the event, but either way you can make a huge

difference in the event. Here is just a few of the upcoming ones:JDRF Walk: Time: 9:00am Date: Oct 5 Location: 2800 Victory Blvd

Breast Cancer Awareness Walk: Time: 9:00am Date: Oct 19th

Location: Clove Lakes Park

March for Babies: Time: 8:00am Date: Nov 2nd Location: Verrazano Bridge(SI side)

These events will really let us show Staten Island what Key Club is all about, so try to have a good showing, either walking or volunteering, for Key Club!
