Gravetye Manor

Gravetye Manor is a small country house hotel set in 1000 acres of wooded parklands

greatest gardeners.

“...beauty was never lost sight of; nothing was done without considering

its effect on the landscape from every point of view...”

William RobinsonThe Father of the English Flower GardenGravetye Manor can be considered one of the most historically influential gardens in the country, as it was once the home of writer and gardener, William Robinson. In his numerous books and publications he spelled out ground breaking ideas, rejecting the rigidity and formality of Victorian gardening and pioneering the more sensitive and naturalistic style of wild gardening and exuberant mixed borders.

| WHERE WE ARE |

“... In this, as in other matters pertaining to fitness & beauty, each place is treated according to its own character. A garden should grow out of its own site if we are to have the best of it. One should think of the spot and what can best be done with it...”

William Robinson on Gravetye - 1918
