Distribution of World’s PopulationContinent Wise
1.Asia Continent• Asia support over half the population of the world.
•In 1998 total world population was 5771 M
• about 3501millions was in asia (57% of world’s
population)

2. Europe
• Europe has the highest average density of
population in the world excluding R.F.
• Total population of Europe is 7.28 millions
• About 12% of world’s total popultion.
• The pattern of population distribution in
Europe is more uniform .
• The average density of population is 200
p/km2
• Urban areas of Europe are london, Pairs ,
Brussels, Amsterdam
• The four countries Germany, the UK, Itly &
France are the most populous in Europe
having density of more than 280 person
per sq: KM.
3. The Russian Federation• The R.F has a population about 147.7 millions
• It ranks as China the 3rd largest country of the
world.
• India is the largest of the industrialized
country followed by USA, JAPAN and other
countries
• R.F is one of the less densely populated
countries of the world.
• The annual rate of growths of population is
only 1%
Reasons for slow growth rate
• The R.F has a widespread knowledge of
family planning women.
• The enormous losses of human life in the
1st & 2nd world war.
• The crude death rate has continuously
declined.
• The birth rate also has fallen from 50 to 25
per thousand at the present time.
4. Africa
• The population of Africa is 732 millions or
9.7% of total world population.
Salient features of Africa• Most of the people live in Nigeria, on the
immediate banks of Nile in Egypt, Algeria, Zaire.
• On the whole, central Africa is a region of very low population.
• Mauritius Island has approximate density of 465 person per sq Km
• People of this small Island are mainly depends on sugarcane plantation.
5. North America
• The total population of North America is
about 295 or 6.1% of total world
population
• The average density of population is 15
person per KM
• North America is the 3rd largest continent
in the world ranking after Asia & Africa
• Continent comprises Canada, USA,
Mexico, Central America and West Indies.
6. South America
• The population of south America 323
million or 8%.
• Average density is only 20nperson per
sq:Km.
• Birth and death rate are both high in all the
Latin American countries
7. Australia & New Zealand
• The general term “Oceania” is used to
include Australia , New Zealand and
certain other land within south west the
pacific ocean
• The population of Australia in 1996 was 29
million
• Australia has low death rate
• It has a average density of 2 person per
sq:Km
• Six capital cities; Sydney, Melbourne,
Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and New Castle.

New Zealand
• The dominion of New Zealand consist of
two large and several small island in the
south pacific Ocean.
• About 40% of population live in the north n
south areas.
