Souper Bowl OfCaring Donations

While Seattle Sea-hawk fans celebratedtheir Super Bowl XLVIIIvictory Sunday, Febru-ary 21, 2014, local resi-dents celebrated the vic-tory they scored againsthunger.

Kershaw AreaResource Exchange(KARE) reported$2,910.84 in donationsand 1,912 cans of food,paper products, andhygiene items. Seventeenchurches participatedthis year. The donationsare very importantbecause from now untilsummer, food donationsgenerally decline.

This year’s SouperBowl donations will helprestock the food pantryand provide KARE withmuch needed funds topay for food over the nextseveral months. Thankyou to our communityfor your generous sup-port that enables KAREto help people in need.

Springs MemorialHospital has begunaccepting application forits Summer Junior Vol-unteer program. Due to the recentinclement weather, Fri-day, March 7 will be aregular school day forKershaw County SchoolDistrict (KCSD) stu-dents. The 2013-14KCSD calendarapproved in December of2012 had indicated thatMarch 7 would be a pro-fessional developmentday for teachers unlessneeded as an inclementweather make up day.

Morgan said the

school district is waitingfor the outcome of anylegislation that may bepassed by the GeneralAssembly in terms of for-giving lost time due tothe winter storms beforeany other decisions aremade.

“We hope to knowsomething soon in termsof possible forgivenessfor these days from thestate,” Morgan said. “Assoon as we have thatinformation and make a

determination, we will letparents know.”

Morgan also said thathe does not foreseechanging any of the timeoff with Spring Break.“Many families havealready made travelplans that involve pur-chasing tickets that can-not be refunded,” hesaid. “I will not recom-mend altering SpringBreak.”
