Answer: Does the weather always stay the same? How often does/can it change?
WEATHER PATTERNS
What weather changes have you seen when the seasons change?
Does this happen every year?
SEASONS Spring: air gets warmer, it becomes very rainy and plants
begin to grow
Summer: summer is usually the warmer time of the year (often hot and sunny)
*Storms can change the weather quickly Fall: air gets cooler (sunny and cloudy days), leaves change
color, some plants stop growing and die
Winter: air gets colder and snows in some places, trees and plants may have no leaves until spring
*In some places the trees and plants keep leaves and growing/no snow and temperature just cools down
What is happening to our trees, right now?
WHY DO WE MEASURE WEATHER?
Vocabulary Temperature: how warm something is
Thermometer: measures temperature
Wind: moving air
Precipitation: water that falls from the sky
TEMPERATURE THERMOMETER
MEASURING WIND
WIND CHILL
PRECIPITATION
WHAT IS THE WATER CYCLE?
Vocabulary Water cycle: water moving from the Earth’s
surface to the air and back to the Earth’s surface
Drought: when it does not rain for a long time and becomes very hot, drying out the earth
Condense: when water vapor changes to tiny water drops (gas to water)
Evaporate: when water changes to a Gas
