What was found in the ghetto after the Nazis were defeated by the

Russians in 1945

More than 2,000 Jews who perished from sickness and starvation in the ghetto during the winter of 1944-1945 are buried here. All of the graves have the same date, January 18, 1945, marking the day the Soviet Army arrived.

The fact that there are graves located on the grounds of a synagogue (officially forbidden by the Jewish law) indicates how dramatic the situation at that time was.
