Dear Families,
Mothers Day Afternoon Tea and Recital
Thursday 9th May at 2.30pm will be our annual
Mothers Day event. There is no need to RSVP.
This year will be a casual event with a small recital
to be performed by all the students. We look
forward to seeing mums, grandmothers, aunts
and special friends.
Cluster Cross Country (Fun Run)
Students have been training already for our cross
country which will be held on Friday 10th May.
We need as many helpers as possible to assist
with cooking our BBQ. Please speak with Kim if
you are able to assist. Our School President
Andrew M is leading by example and has already
offered to man the bbq. Thanks to Evan F who has
already mown the course ready for a practise
session later this week.
ANZAC Day
Thank you to those students who attended the
ANZAC Day service last week in uniform and to
those who laid the thoughtful wreaths. All our
wreaths were hand made by our students.
Welcome to Chanel
At the end of term we welcomed Chanel to our
school in Year 5. Chanel has settled in beautifully
and I have been very impressed with how the
other students have welcomed her.
NAPLAN
Students in Grades 3 and 5 will be participating in
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program in
Literacy and Numeracy) in the week of 14th to
16th May. To ensure that everyone is confident
and well prepared for these tests we do some
past papers, and practice writing narratives and
persuasive writing pieces. NAPLAN is one of the
many tools used to measure student progress,
and growth between years 3, 5, 7 and 9 helps to
give a clear picture of how each student is going
in maths and English as they advance through the
school system. Further information can be
found at https://www.nap.edu.au
If parents have any question about the testing
program please come and speak with one of
the teachers.
Mr Armitage Leave
From tomorrow Mr Armitage will be on leave
until 16th May. Eliza will be working some days
in his absence.
Nail Can Hill Fun Run
We are encouraging any keen runners to enter
the Nail Can Hill Fun Run this Sunday in Albury.
If we have 4 students entered into the School
Can 4.2km then we might be able to come
away with $500 if we have the fastest
combined times. I am happy to run with any
students who need support i.e. bring up the
rear.

Do you know the Long Spelling Right After Short Vowel
spelling rule?
The students in Year 1-6 have been learning or will be re-
visiting the LSRASV rule.
LSRASV—ge/dge
Does it have 1 syllable
Does it have a short vowel sound
Is the short vowel sound next to
the /j/ sound?
If yes then use the long spelling for /j/ = dge
Eg
bridge, ridge, fudge, lodge, cage, bulge, sage, rage

This term for Integrated Studies we will be learning about
Democracy, why we have rules and laws and what the
responsibility of the different levels of government in Australia
are.
This will tie in with the 5/6 camp and their visit to Parliament
House in Canberra.
Thus far students have explored rules and laws. It was
interesting to learn about wacky laws from around the world.
Next students will move on to exploring what is a country and
what are citizens. By the end of the term we will have created
our own country and citizens complete with political parties
and participated in a vote for the new Prime Minister.

The Department has released a new website that helps parents identify their local public school online. Findmyschool.vic.gov.au launched on 24 April and shows every school zone across the state. The new website highlights the choice of public schools available to the Victorian community. If your child is preparing to enter Year 7 and want to know more about the public secondary school options in our area, or you know someone who is interested in enrolling at our school, try findmyschool.vic.gov.au today If you have a question about the website, contact the Victorian School building Authority Hotline on 1800 896 950 or email
