DIDIER Drogba scored his 100th Prem-ier League goal as Chelsea maintainedthe pressure on Arsenal in the race forfourth place with a 1-0 win over10-man Stoke City.

Drogba bagged his eighth goal of theseason after 68 minutes of a tense en-counter at Stamford Bridge as Chelseanotched its second win since lastweek’s sacking of manager AndreVillas-Boas.

The win saw interim manager Ro-berto Di Matteo’s side go level onpoints with fourth-placed Arsenal,which can restore its three-point leadwith victory today over NewcastleUnited.

The 25-year-old Australian pro-duced the most dominant hurdlingdisplay in the history of the champion-ships, in Istanbul on Saturday, leavingAmerican-turned-Brit Tiffany Portertrailing 0.21sec in her wake.

Uncharacteristically sluggish out ofthe blocks in her semi-final, Pearsonrebounded with a 0.136 start reactiontime as she powered away to win thefinal in 7.73sec — the equal fourth fa-stest of all-time — to win from Porterand Belarussian Alina Talay (7.97).

‘‘I am so excited,’’ Pearson said. ‘‘Iwas so nervous for that race. I didn’twant to jump the start. My semi-finalwas yuk. I hated it. I’m glad that I wonin a good time.’’
