Books for Troops Needs to Raise Money; Books are PlentifulCAPITAL REGION – Thanks to your incredible response for our need for books, we have received a tremendous amount of books within a very short time and will be receiving thousands more from 3 additional book drives in November. As a result, we want to thank you for your generosity, but ask that dona-tions to Books for Troops be given in the form of monetary help instead of book donations. $12.50 sends a box of books overseas. However any amount will help. Additionally, Books for Troops will be trying to raise money by having a Bake Sale on Election Day, November 6 from 9am-6pm at the Halfmoon Town Hall. There will be NO book sale at this time due to con-gestion issues. Instead we will be selling raffle tickets for a 43” Samsung plasma TV. The price will be $5/ticket or $10/3 tick-ets. Drawing will be held on December 2. If you cannot make the bake sale, you can purchase a ticket for the TV by send-ing the amount of your ticket(s) to Books for Troops, 152 Oak Brook Commons, and Clifton Park, NY 12065. Checks can be made out to Books for Troops. Please write on the check-- Raffle Tickets. (You will receive a receipt.) To hear how grate-ful the troops are for these books you can go on line to www.booksfortroopscp.webs.com. (P)

Donations of Holiday Gifts For Children NeededSO. SARATOGA COUNTY – Over the past 23 years, the Chamber Angels, a program of The Chamber of Southern Sara-toga County, has provided holiday gifts to thousands of chil-dren in Southern Saratoga County thanks to the generosity of businesses and individuals who have donated countless toys, clothes, and personal items. The Chamber Angels program identifies less fortunate children who would most likely not receive any gifts for Christmas through area schools and other not-for-profit organizations. Children’s wish lists are provided to individuals and businesses that agree to sponsor the child and fulfill their wish lists. All the gifts are distributed back through the schools or agencies, insuring that each child receives their desired gifts before the holidays. Chamber Angels will hold a fundraising cocktail reception, “An Evening with Angels” on November 15 at the Mohawk Country Club and Chateau. In-dividuals can register to attend the reception or receive more information about sponsoring a child by calling The Chamber at 371-7748 or by visiting www.southernsaratoga.org. Busi-nesses or individuals who may be interested in sponsoring this event or being an angel to a child a need this season can learn more by calling the number above. Christmas tree ornaments containing a single wish list item can be obtained at the follow-ing locations starting the first week in November: Times Square (Clifton Park Center Mall), NBT Bank (225 Guideboard Rd, Halfmoon), TD Bank (Shopper’s World Plaza), Mechanicville District Public Library, and Tiny Tots Tea Room or Artique (both in Plaza 8, Crescent Road). Albany, NY (October 15, 2012) –Do you have a love for animals and want to support a great local cause? Join with the Goldstein Auto Group and bring your empty bottles and cans to a Goldstein dealership and support the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society’s “Empties For Animals” campaign helps support the mission of the organization, including sheltering, adoption, education, advocacy and the prevention of cruelty to animals. This year’s goal is to raise $125,000, in honor of the Society’s 125th Anniversary. To reach the goal, the Goldstein Auto Group will need to collect more than 1,500,000 cans and bottles. The 2012 "Empties For Animals” campaign has raised over $73,000 thru Sept. 2012, an increase of $17,638 or 33% over the same period last year. The 2011 campaign raised a total of more than $74,000 and col-lected 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans, based on the originating distributor, which in turn gener-ated $.08 per can or bottle instead of the regular $.05 redemption
fee paid at stores. Monies from the program were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and support the 2012 “Empties For Animals” campaign. We would like to thank all of our customers and the members of the community who have generously donated to such a worthy cause,” said Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group.

PRAYER TO THEBLESSED VIRGIN(Never known to fail) Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. R.M.R.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Thank you for favor received. M.S.

SARATOGA COUNTY – CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services commemorate National Runaway Prevention Month (November) with The Green Light Project. It’s a parent’s worst nightmare – their child has run away. A series of questions and incomprehensible outcomes run through their head. They wonder what to do, where their child was last seen, and what was discussed before they left home that day. Kids run away from home. Even more contemplate running. And more than half of the youth calls handled by the National Runaway Switchboard (NRS) deal with a youth who is already on the street as a runaway, throwaway, or homeless youth. November is National Runaway Prevention Month and NRS and the National Network for Youth (NNY) are embarking on the fifth annual national public education campaign to raise awareness of youth runaway issues, and to educate Americans about solutions that help prevent youth from running away. This November, showing your support for runaway youth is as easy as flipping a switch! Replace your porch light with a green light bulb for the month. Green light bulbs are available at CAPTAIN Youth and Family services for a $1. Please join us along with the Town of Clifton Park, The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and many more to shine your green light during November! For those with questions about CAPTAIN, please visit our website at www.captainyfs.org. Those wishing to speak to a CAPTAIN Representative, Andy Gilpin may also call 518-371-1185. (P)
Behavior Challenges at SchoolCLIFTON PARK – Adults are invited to attend the parent workshop entitled Behavior Challenges at School: Positive Supports for Students with Disabilities at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library on Thursday, November 15 at 9am. With the new school year just begun, this timely workshop “Behavioral Challenges at School: Functional Behavior As-sessments and Positive Behavior Supports for Students with Disabilities” can help parents learn to deal more effectively with the ways in which students’ disabilities can significantly interfere with learning. Parents and advocates will also gain a solid understanding of a school’s obligation to address behavior using functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). Participants will leave with answers to these key questions: Should my child have an FBA and BIP? What do they mean? How can I get one? What if it doesn’t work? Julie Keegan is a special education expert and will cover the topics parents of students with disabilities really want to know. Registration requested, through Parent Network Capital Region of New York @ http://www.pncrny.org or call 518-640-3320 (P)

Did You Know? Many people are fully attentive when they get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Motorists are increasingly concerned about rollovers, which are more prevalent in vehicles with a higher pro-file, such as SUVs and trucks. Rollovers may be caused by improper tire pressure, bad weather, potholes and over-correcting of a vehicle when swerving out of the way. Motorists can, however, reduce their risk of being in a rollover accident.
* Select SUVs with a wider distance between the tires in the back of the vehicles. This wider stance gives an SUV more stability than those that are narrow and tall.
* Keep driving speeds within the recommended range. Higher speeds often contribute to roll-overs.
* Slow down when navigating turns, especially those on off and on ramps of highways. Slow down by taking your foot off of the accelerator rather than pressing hard on the brakes.
* Maintain proper tire pressure and regularly check if your tires are in good shape. Tire blow-outs may cause rollover accidents.
* Distribute items in the car evenly so weight is spread throughout.
* Keep an eye out for pot-holes and other road obstruc-tions that could cause the ve-hicle to go off balance.

Stay Abreast Of Vehicle Recall InformationDriving a new vehicle off of the sales lot can be exciting. Brand-new vehicles are supposed to be reliable and free from maintenance concerns. However, sometimes manufacturers recall a vehicle, forcing drivers to visit the auto body shop sooner than they had hoped.
According to the Auto Insurance Organization, 390 million vehicles have been recalled since the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act became law in 1966. Vehicles are recalled for a variety of reasons, including poorly performing tires, faulty pieces of motor vehicle equipment and unsafe child safety seats. From 2009 to 2010, Toyota alone recalled 8.5 million cars, the single largest recall in history.
It can be disconcerting to learn that your vehicle is being recalled. The uneasiness of driving a potentially dangerous vehicle coupled with the prospect of being without a car can be daunting.
Vehicle manufacturers must notify consumers that a recall is in place. But sometimes a vehicle owner may not be aware that there is a recall. In the event of large recalls, like the recent ones involving Toyota and Bridgestone Tires, the story makes the national news. But there are other ways drivers can stay current on recall information to ensure their personal safety.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an arm of the U.S. Department of Trans-portation, is a source of information on vehicle recalls. Their database dates back to 1966. The NHTSA provides information on equipment recalls, entire vehicle recalls, child safety seat re-calls, and tire recalls. There also is information on school bus recalls.
Individuals can visit www.Recalls.gov and select the categories they want to check. To check recalls on a particular motor vehicle, select that category, enter the make and model as well as the year, and the information about any recalls will appear.
Recall information can help save lives and prevent injuries. It is important to be aware of recalls to ensure the vehicle you're driving is as safe as possible.
Information about vehicle recalls and necessary repairs can help protect drivers from injury.
