Message FroM the PrinciPalOn behalf of the admin-
istration, faculty, staff and school board members of Shamokin Area School Dis-trict, I would like to wel-come all alumni to the annu-al meeting of The Shamokin Area High School Alumni Association.
Once again, I can proudly announce that our students continue to represent Sham-okin Area well in a variety of areas. Academically, our stu-dents continue to excel. Many of them are currently taking college coursework through Bloomsburg University and
Luzerne County Community College as high school stu-dents. Musically, we have had many students qualify for dis-trict and regional music festi-vals and our competition band has placed very high at vari-ous competitions throughout the school year. In the area of athletics, several of our team and individual athletes have qualified for district and league playoff competition.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Shamokin Area High School Alumni Association for your support. I recognize
the hard work and effort put forth by the association each year and I commend you for your generosity to the school district and our students through the schol-arships and other donations. It is greatly appreciated.
Enjoy your visit with classmates, friends, and family. You have my best wishes for a memorable re-union weekend.
Sincerely,
Chris J. VennaPrincipal

Greetings Fellow Alumni,
On behalf of The Sham-okin Area Alumni Associa-tion, its officers and dedi-cated committee members, I would like to invite you to attend the 133rd Sham-okin Area Alumni Associa-tion Banquet and Reunion. This year’s event, open to all Shamokin alumni and their families, will be held at Masser’s Banquet Hall in Paxinos on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 5:45 PM.
I’m proud to have served as President of your alumni association this past year. We’ve worked hard to pre-pare an enjoyable evening of reminiscing, informing and networking. At this year’s reunion we will once again award scholarships to many
deserving graduates of the Class of 2016 who excelled on the alumni exam.
Did you know that our alumni association held its first reunion on May 7, 1884, making ours, the old-est known group of its kind in the United States?
Did you know that this year marks the 50th year reunion of the first gradu-ating class of the then com-bined Shamokin and Coal Township schools?
Did you know that the Shamokin Area Alumni As-sociation has a website and a Facebook page?
Did you know that mem-bership in our organization only costs $2.00 annual dues?
There are many more in-teresting facts to be learned by joining our organization and by attending our ban-quet and reunion this year. Please consider joining us whether you’re out of school 50 years or 5 years, we’d love to see you!
Sincerely,
Todd Nye Class of 1989

“We believe we may be one of the oldest continuing active high school alumni associations in the country. Our first class graduated in 1883.” In order for an organization to continue to operate successfully, it needs active involvement from its members.
Many of you in the area could become active in the operation of the association. It is getting more difficult to find new leaders to serve. The executive committee has no idea who is interested in serving as an officer or on a committee.
If you are interested in getting involved or would like to suggest an individual who would be interested in helping, please contact any officer of the association. You may want to consider attending any of the 3 meetings (Fall, Winter and Spring) to see how you can help. “Officer contact info, meeting dates and times are posted on the web”.
Inspired Thoughts What inspired you while attending Shamokin
Area High School? Was it a teacher, fellow student or an event? We all have many worthwhile experiences to share. If you would like to share your thoughts to inspire others, feel free to send information to John Clutcher. Your note could be placed on the alumni website, put in a future newsletter or shared at our annual banquet. Limit your entry to around 250 words. The Alumni Association reserves the right to edit entries based upon content and length. Include your name and year of graduation, which would be shared publicly with the entry.

Thank you, Eugene Boughner
Attention winners of the Shamokin Area High School scholarship awards. Congratula-tions to all of you. Please consider donating to the scholarship fund so that other students may also benefit from the awards. Thank you very much.
It is very important that we continue to receive contribu-tions for the scholarship fund from alumni members so we can continue to increase the num-ber of scholarships, thus giving more students help with their advanced education.
