“We believe we may be one of the oldest continuing active high school alumni associations in the country. Our first class graduated in 1883.” In order for an organization to continue to operate successfully, it needs active involvement from its members.

Many of you in the area could become active in the operation of the association. It is getting more difficult to find new leaders to serve. The executive committee has no idea who is interested in serving as an officer or on a committee.

If you are interested in getting involved or would like to suggest an individual who would be interested in helping, please contact any officer of the association. You may want to consider attending any of the 3 meetings (Fall, Winter and Spring) to see how you can help. “Officer contact info, meeting dates and times are posted on the web”.

Inspired Thoughts What inspired you while attending Shamokin

Area High School? Was it a teacher, fellow student or an event? We all have many worthwhile experiences to share. If you would like to share your thoughts to inspire others, feel free to send information to John Clutcher. Your note could be placed on the alumni website, put in a future newsletter or shared at our annual banquet. Limit your entry to around 250 words. The Alumni Association reserves the right to edit entries based upon content and length. Include your name and year of graduation, which would be shared publicly with the entry.

Trustees of the Shamokin Area High School Alumni Association’s Educational Fund announced that an additional award of $1,000 per year for each of the four years of study was awarded in May 2015. In addition, each of the other regular awards was increased by $100 per academic year. These awards were in addition to those awarded by the Coal Township Alumni Association.

Officers of the educational fund committee include Eugene Boughner, president; Susan Kropinski Haas, vice president; Frances Lee Brennan-Culp, secretary and Gregory Dwulet, treasurer.

Thank you, Eugene Boughner

Attention winners of the Shamokin Area High School scholarship awards. Congratula-tions to all of you. Please consider donating to the scholarship fund so that other students may also benefit from the awards. Thank you very much.

It is very important that we continue to receive contribu-tions for the scholarship fund from alumni members so we can continue to increase the num-ber of scholarships, thus giving more students help with their advanced education.
