Suzanneand I wish you all a very Happy New Year and may the Lord bless you and your familythroughout this New Year We just returned from a few days visiting with our family in New YorkCity. Emily and her husband Ryan, came from Seattle and we were together with them and Lauriefor Christmas. When we arrived on the 22nd, it was bitterly cold but the weather got warmer untilthe 31st. We had a wonderful time with everyone and even got to see a taping of the DavidLetterman show on the 23rd. The security for that show should be hired for Homeland SecurityVery strict but it was fun to see the show hve.

We came back home on the 1st and are gearing up for several work teams over the comingweeks. In January we will have groups from;Cincinnati Christian UniversityThe Christian Church at Cogan Station, PAPomona Christian Church Pomona MO

In February we will have teams from:Parkside Christian Church Cincinnati OH

West Side Christian Church, Springfield, IL

We re so pleased with the progress that has been made at the Punta Cana construction project.Franklin and Ilonka and their family got moved in on December 12th They have settled in nicelyand are finishing some of the details that still need to be done. We are planning to start theconstruction of the multi-purpose building this month, Lord willing. That will mean buying andpreparing all the materials for the foundation for this 3-stoiy building. Lots of rebar, concrete andhard labor Teams will also be preaching and doing VBS programs there. We ll keep posting photos u r w e b s i t e : w w w. e a s t e m d o m i n i c a n . c o m

We re especially excited to see the growth of the church in La Romana. The elders, along withVictor Jimenez, have really taken leadership this past year and have set the very high goal of 200new members for the church in 2009. They are also beginning to consider purchasing property forthe church to have their own building. The center where the church has been meeting since 2004has struggled witli some leadership issues and our long-term lease with them may not be the bestsituation for the church in the future so the church leaders are beginning to consider other optionsand we think that is wise. Please pray for guidance in this issue. They had a full house for the NewYe a r s E v e serv ice .

Ryan and Erin Vandelinde, our co-workers, are heading today for Costa Rica and one year oflanguage study Please keep them in your prayers and pray especially for a quick adaption to hfe inCosta Rica and pray for the Lord to bless them as they learn Spanish. We re eager to have themcome and work alongside us. Lord willing, they will be here in early 2010. Suzanne and I lookforward to having them. Andrew Butz, our other future co-worker, is planning to head to CostaRica this coming summer so please pray for him also.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. The Lord continues to provide despite the difficulteconomic times worldwide. The economy in the Dominican Republic has been fairly stable butconstruction has slowed way down and, therefore, unemployment is up significantly. We rehumbled by the way the Lord continues to provide for our needs and for the work here.

Greetings once again from the Dominican Republic Suzanne and I are back homeafter a whirlwind of activities with four work teams since January 7th Once again, theLord blessed us with energy and wonderful fellowship with the following groups:

Cincinnati Christian University students lead by Larry Travis and Rick CherokHope Christian Mission churches in P and NY lead by Bud Voder, Larry Sheddy and DonKennedyPomona MO) Christian Church lead by Marcus AlienParkside Christian Church lead by Randy Shivers

It s amazing how the Lord continues to provide the needed finances to continue theconstruction project in Punta Canal As January started, funds were at a minimum andwith the financial crisis in the United States, and around the world, we thought that wewere not going to be able to make much progress on the multi-purpose building. Fundscame in from individualsand supporting churches at exactly the righttime so that wewere able to make a great deal of progress. We were able to:

Prepare the steelwork for the columns and footers. Pour th e c o nc re t e o n th e footers. Prepare the scaffolding for the columns upto roof level. Lay all of the blocks on the first floor 1600 8 inch blocks). Prepare the support system for the roof pour Buy and prepare the steel for the ring column and first floor roof Pour th e concrete fo r th e roof. Buy and lay all ofthe blocks on the second floor 1600 8-inch block)

The work teams worked really hard and the Lord was glorified by their witness here. Thechurch in Punta Cana just had 7 baptisms last week and the youth of the church is in theprocess of forming their Youth Group. Our next step in the construction is to get the firstfloor compietely done on the muiti-purpose buiiding. Frankiin and lionka are thinking of a

Day Carecenter in one of the large roomsand Englishas a Second Languageclasses inone ofthe other larger rooms. Each of the first two floorswill have two large rooms,twobathrooms,2-3 office rooms anda receptionarea. One of the driving forces behind thisconstruction is to allow the church in Punta Cana to have some income-producingspace inorder to begin being less dependenton US church/missionIncome.Our goal is to havethe work there financiallyindependent by December2010, Lord willing.

We re estimating that to completelyfinish the first floor of the multi-purposebuildingwillcost about 22,000. We re confidentthat the Lord will provide those needed funds and Ifyou are able to help, we really appreciate it. Ail funds can be sent to:

The church here in La Romana is gearing up for their 5th anniversary celebrationweek, starting on Wed., Feb. 25th and going throughSunday, March 1st. The leadershipis planninga variety of activitiesand it should be a wonderfultime of celebrationandthanksgiving. Thechurch has the huge goal of 200 new believers thisyear and they areoff to a wonderful start with 12 in January at the main church and 3 conversions in thePica Piedras church. God continues to bless the churches here with growth anddeveloping leadership and we're excited about the prospects for the future.

Asyou all knowand are probably experiencing, the world economy Is in very difficultstraights right now. We're humbled by the way the Lord continues to provide for theneeds of the work here and we continue to plan projects based on our faith that God willprovide. Let me mention two upcoming projects and prayer requests:

The Board of Directors of Eastem Dominican Christian Mission wants to help Victor

and Yudermy Jimenez realize the dream of having their own home in La Romana. Victorand Yudermy have done a great job in leading the church and we want to help them getinto their own home. The first step is buying a housing lot. Estimates are around $25,000USfor a lot In the area they live In, which is a nice, middle-class area. We just set aside$2000 from the general fund of the mission to get this fund started and we would like toask you to generously help with this project. Our goal is to help them start construction byJan. 1, 2010, Lord willing.

Wehave an architect working on a preliminary drawing to give us an idea of where facilitieswould go on a piece of property of 25-30 acres. Exciting News From The Dominican Republic

October 8 2009

Dear Friends In Christ,

Greetings once again from a Romana. Suzanne and I are especiallyexcited to write to you today because of two events that have happenedin the past 24 hours. Last night after the Wednesday evening Prayer andPraise time at the La Romana Christian Church, one of the elders and hiswife, Damian and iria Morales, asked to speak to Suzanne and I andVictor Jimenez, the minister. We sat down and iria proceeded to inform ustha t she has a piece of land near Higuey, in th e country, that she wants todonate to th e mission to help get a camp/conference center started To saywe were dumbfounded is an understatement We have been praying forland in the eas tern par t of the country and the church in a Romana ha sbeen praying specificaiiy for land ail this year. It really seems like the Lordis answering this prayer in a most unexpected way.

We have also been praying and planning to be able to buy a pieceof land so that Victor and Yudermy Jimenez can build their home here inLa Romana. They have been faithfully working with the church here for thepast five years an d are so excited to be able t o s ta rt planning to build ahome. We are signing the provisional sales agreement this afternoon,b ut w e will need some additional help soon

We need to raise an additional $14,000US by January 15, 2010 tofinish paying for this property. Land is very expensive in town andcontinually rising in costs so we feel that it's now or never for Victor andYudermy to get a piece of land. We're thriiied to see the ieadership taking more and more responsibiiity and praythat their growth wiii continueWe're ready to begin work again on the muiti-purpose buiiding in Punta Cana. We iibe instaiiing the protective griiiwork, windows and doors, aiong with tiie fioors onthe first floor and should have that first floor done by the middle of February, ordwiiiing

Suzanne and I have been asked by th e Administration at the Medical Center in a

Romana, to help oversee the reorganization and remodeling of the center. This isthe clinic where the church in a Romana meets, where many of you have visited.We never thought that we would have Hospital Administrators in our resumes butwe do now What a job Lots of financial issues and remodeling issues especially butwe have made a good start. We have two teams coming soon that wiii work on theparking lot and help reseai th e roof, which is one o f the biggest remodeling issues.The clinic has so much potential and there could be so many outreach programs forthe thousands of people in the surrounding area. Please pray that the ord will leadus in our decision-making process for this project

We have been able to make a down payment for a piece of property for a home forVictor and Yudermy Jimenez, the pastors here in La Romana. We have a paymentdue on January 15th of $14,000US and so far, we have raised close to $11,000We're thrilled with the response and would ask you to consider helping, if you havenot already done so.
