Ke \ 'e had a lo t of t h r i l l s and v ic to r i e s in our miss ion workover the l a s t 19 years but we recen t ly were blessed with a once in^ l ifetime experience At our annual Youth Conference, sponsoredb> Christ in iouth from Jopl in , O we saw the Lord work in apowerful way e i^'ere gathered with, our young' people from a l l overthe island for four days and with great preaching and teaching, ouryoung peop l e x-rere ch al le n ged as neve r b e f o r e .After Dave Stone's l a s t message on Sunday morning, we offeredan invi ta t ion for Lifetime Christ ian Service, an invi ta t ion for theyoung people to dedicate t h e i r l i ves to some area of Chris t ianservice. Even before I was able to finish the invitation, young menand women were walking down the a i s le . I t was one of the mostthril l ing moments in our mission work. I had to have help gettingthe to ta l number, so many came forward We f inal ly counted 55 1 ivesdedicated to the work of Christ 's church I t was an overwhelmingresponse to a grea t need in the Dominican Republic and LatinAmerica. Time wil l t e l l the impact of th i s conference. The Universi ty Christ ian Church(La Igles ia Cris t ianaUniversitaria ) in the capital brought the most young people to theconference, 49 in al l The church has grown and matured to be oneof the strongest on the island in our fellowship. They have beenable to grow despite not having a church building of their own. They are meeting in the conference hal l of the National useumofHistory each Sunday morning One of our most important goals thisyear is buying property and beginning construction of a buildingfor this church. Adequate property for the future growth will costa t le a s t $15,000, money t ha t we . )ust do no t have. We're making a special appeal to every person that has beendown to vi s i t and help with the work to t ry and raise 200 towardsthe purchase of property for the church in Santo Domingo. Most of

you have met Dr. Pena and Pedro Abreu and the i r famil ies. You knowthe quality of leaders that they are and the good work that theyare doing. Your help wil l be such a blessing for them and thechurch. The church has already started saving for the property andthey'l l do as much as they possibly can. Please help in whateverway you can. God bless you and we hope to see you againIn Ch r i s t

    News From T h eDominican RepublicApril 7, 1992

Greetings once again from the Dominican Republic. When I started organizing my thoughts for this newsletterI checked my calendar for what all we have been doingthese past three months and I quickly realized that Iwas going to have to leave some things out We have beenextra busy and so very blessed by the work hereWe started out the new year with a work team from the Chicago area, le d byBrook Brotzman of the Lakeland Christian Church. They came to help work on twochurch construction projects and work they did They mixed concrete, dug founda

t ions and got sunburned in our hot winter sun Brook has been here twice thispa st y ear and is comin'g again in June, Lord willing. Also in January we were able to inaugurate the new church building in Nagua. The building was started several years ago and Christ In Youth from Joplin, had helped do part of the construction. The church has grown the last few monthsand the youth group won an attendance placque at the Annual Youth Conference.CIY sponsored our youth conference with the theme this year of Honest ToGod (Sinceros on Dios) and it was an amazing time of fellowship and leading byGod's hand. We had 13 baptisms ^d>55 young people dedicated their lives to sometype of Christian service It wa^% thrilling moment to see the kids coming downthe aisle at the last chapel service. They are all super exci ted about next year scon fe renc e, t o be held in Feb. of 1993.Six of our young leaders just go back from a year-long evangelist ic internship program in Panama. The leaders there were thrilled with their developmentand work in the churches in the northern section of Panama. The kids spent almostevery day studying, teaching Bible Studies and leading people to the Lord. I justmet yesterday with the preachers of the Santiago area to plan a strategy fo r usingthese young people to impact the Santiago churches and we re sure that the Lordwill use them in a powerful way.

We continue with our Leadership Training Conferences and las t month had thehighest attendance yet, over 100 for our Friday night session. We're going tohave to buy more mattresses for the men to sleep on, as seme of them went without one last month because of the high attendance The men are reporting greatgrowth in many of the churches. The church in Esperanza has had 17 baptisms thislast month. The church in Sabaneta had over 150 in attendance last Sunday eveningand they are meeting in a house and have pews in the front yard and street becausethey don't have enough room The church in Esperanza needs both a lot and a building, The Sabaneta church has a lot. They need a construction team to come helpbuild a building. How about your church coming to help? We've been blessed greatly by several groups that have come from the U.S.We will have 8 teams coming between now and July and almost all will be helpingwith some area of cons truc tion . I t s such a boost for the brethern here to seehow the Americans come and share and work for the church here. The visitors wehave, however, always tell us that they receive much more than they give fromthe Dominican Christians. Please be praying for these groups and for the workthey do and safety in their travels. Pray for energy for us, too
