The South African National Blood Services(SANBS) confirmed that the Christmas BigBleed Drive organised in conjunction withboth the Klinicare Pharmacy in Uitenhageand supported by the Uitenhage Lions Club
was a major success.
“Although the target of 150 pints was notachieved the support by the public contribut-ed to specific and life saving facts.“Out of the total of 127 donors there was on-
ly a 14% deferral rate which is less than the
branch average of 17%,” saidMarykeHarrisof the SouthAfricanNational Blood Service.Other contributing factors were that first
time donors were 24% of which Nico Eyreof Klinicare Pharmacywas one of those whomade a difference. Re-joined donors were29% who had not donated in the last 12months. All of the above contributed to in-creasing the blood stock in the Nelson Man-delaMetropole from a probable 3.0 to 4.3 daystock level.LionpresidentAndré vanNiekerk extend-
ed his sincerest appreciation to both SANBSand Klinicare Pharmacy for making the exer-cise possible. The involvement of local business such as
Body Fuel Express for their donation of dis-tilledwaterwasvital for donors to recover aft-er having made their donations.“As a result of the public’s support this
event could possibly become an annual one. That will help those in dire need for supportwhen a life threatening incident occurs, saidHarris.

If you’re looking to sell property this year, the market could well be in your favour. After three consecutive years of realhouse price growth, estate agents are nowseeingademand for residential propertiesoutstripping supply.
John Loos, household and property sec-tor strategist forFirstNationalBank, sayshe believes it is quite possible that therewill be a price growth rate of 8% to 9% inthe year ahead.
“This expectation is based on a numberof factors, including the downward movein global oil prices, a decline in global foodprices anda reasonablybehaved rand,”hesays.
Andrew Golding, chief executive of thePam Golding group, agrees.
“Last year was the year when houseprice growth finally began to move intoabove-inflation, positive territory for thefirst time since the 2008 recession ended.
“As the Pam Golding Residential Prop-erty Index reflects, the national trend lineof property value growth showed no signof faltering through October.
“In fact, it has strengthened since theprevious month as it powers its way to-wards the 8% nominal house price bench-mark, indicating further progress ahead.”

The Amarok Double Cab has revolutionisedthe local 1-tonne bakkie market since its in-troduction in September 2010.
One of the innovative technologies thatAmarok introduced into the local bakkie seg-mentwas the 8-speedautomatic transmissionin January 2013. Until now, this popular de-rivativewas available onlywith a permanentfour-wheel drive system.Customers cannoworder theAmarokDou-
ble Cab Automatic with a rear-wheel drivesystem. The 4x2 derivative has a combinedfuel consumption of 8.2 litres per 100 km and
CO2 emissions of 216 g/km.The additional gears make it possible to
achieve awider gear ratio spread between the1st and 8th gears compared to a conventionalautomatic transmission. As a result, the132kW 2.0 litre BiTDI engine works more fre-quently in its optimal torque band. The 8thgear has been configured as a fuel savingoverdrive gear that operates at reduced en-gine speed. The 2.0 litre BiTDI has a maximum torque
of 420 Newton metres that is available at1 750rpm.The top speed of 180 km/h is reached in 7th
gear. It takes only 10.6 seconds to acceleratefrom 0 to 100 km/h.
