With only 8 more school days left, there is still plenty planned for the students! A huge thank you to the SRC members for their magnificent efforts this year in leading their peers, making decisions about their school and making the ideas come to fruition. Hosting the assembly on Friday was a demonstration of the confidence you have developed this year, well done! It’s great preparation in leadership for the years ahead. The Special Assembly was also the last assembly organised by our two school captains, Xavier and Ben. They have regularly set up the assembly and controlled the music for all our assemblies this year. A great job boys; we hope you have trained the next organisers for 2014. Our Special Assembly saw the sports awards, Student achievement, special awards to Mrs Daniels, Mrs Hauenstein and Ben and the birthdays for those who celebrate during the remaining days of the year. It was good to see so many parents and friends come to the assembly and join with us in the celebration of these awards. The Thank You morning tea was also well attended and this is only a small way in which we can demonstrate how thankful we are to have such a fantastic group of parents and community members supporting our students and school. Last Monday Luella and Bella attended the District Cricket trials and had a great day polishing their skills, playing a game and having the opportunity to be in the local team. Luella was successful in being chosen but declined the offer due to other commitments. This was the first time Bella had played cricket at this level. Well done Girls we are so proud of your efforts! Last Wednesday Xavier and Ben attended Mullumbimby High for their final orientation for the year. They had a good day, met friends they have made during the year, formed class groups and found their way around the school. All the best for 2014 Xavier and Ben! Be sure to return your permission note, swimming level and money for the end of year event in Ballina. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. All parents and pre-schoolers are most welcome to come too! On Monday 16 December, we will be having the final canteen day for the year. Susie Murray and Adrienn have offered to open the canteen for us. Due to the stock being run down for the holidays, not all regular items will be available, so you might need to be prepared to have a second choice for lunch. We will

FROM THE PRINCIPAL It’s hard to believe but this is the last newsletter for the year!

The Thank You morning tea was also well attended and this is only a small way in which we can demonstrate how thankful we are to have such a fantastic group of

parents and community members supporting our students and school.

Last Monday Luella and Bella attended the District Cricket trials and had a great day polishing their skills, playing a game and having the opportunity to be in the local team. Luella was successful in being chosen but declined the offer due to other commitments. This was the first time Bella had played cricket at this level. The last day of term for the students is Wednesday 18 December. All students will return to school for 2014 on Wednesday 29 January. The staff would like to wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday break. Enjoy the time with your children and … don’t forget to try and read every day!!!

Tomorrow is the presentation of the Captains speeches and voting for 2014 leaders.

The students will give their speeches to the school community. The voting by students and staff will follow. Captains WILL NOT be announced until 2014 at our first assembly. Annette Fairhall

WIRES Years 2/3/4 were lucky enough to have a visit from our local WIRES lady, Katie Stewart. She is also an expert on gliders. Katie would love pouches made for her rescued babies, they must be of natural material. Katie loved

our squirrel glider documentary, she asked for a copy to show at the WIRES meeting!

Skill of the Week last week was “I am safe when I follow the bus rules”.

This week is “I am responsible when I dispose of my rubbish in the appropriate bins”.

Good on You Winners Week 9 – Jacob, Zephyr, Mason, Jaala and Ruby D. Good on you! Chook Duty

This week is Class K/1. Next week is Class 2/3.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Presentation Night: 11 December. Mystery Tour Year 6: Monday 16 December. SRC The SRC have worked really hard this year and raised over $1100. They have had some wonderful fundraising ideas and had lots of fun. The SRC are meeting with their classes to devise wish lists to spend their money. Some of the money will be spent on helping children who are not as lucky as we are at The Pocket. We are deciding whether to have water pumps installed in remote schools in Cambodia, so the children don't have to walk for hours for water, and perhaps we will be buying some goats and chickens also. This is an Oxfam initiative and an effective way to give. There will be money left over to also buy some things the children decide they'd like to have at school! Well done SRC.

Choosing school shoes

Are expensive school shoes the best option for happy

feet? Let's face it. School shoes have never been at the

cutting edge of fashion. In fact if you look at what your

parents were wearing, the humble school shoe really

hasn't evolved much at all.
