Although it looked a bit different (outside, on chairs, without visitors), it was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the efforts of our students over the last term. There were 77 Gold Award recipients and 13 School Banner recipients, with representatives from every grade K-6. These students have demonstrated our core values but particularly strong learnerbehaviours. Congratulations to these students! It is important to note that all of our students appear to have returned with a positive mindset and are working hard in class. The priorities for curriculum learning this term are on English, Mathematics, Science and History/Geography. When visiting classrooms, it is great to see students working in groups, joining in discussions, engaging with explicit instruction and showing their learning in these areas. Students will engage in other learning as it relates to their wellbeing throughout this term. Yours sincerely, Elise Berwick Principal

Dear parents/carers,

This week we held our first Captain’s Assembly since June!

Although it looked a bit different (outside, on chairs, without

visitors), it was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the

efforts of our students over the last term. There were 77

Gold Award recipients and 13 School Banner recipients,

with representatives from every grade K-6. These students

have demonstrated our core values but particularly strong

‘learner’ behaviours. Congratulations to these students!

It is important to note that all of our students appear to have

returned with a positive mindset and are working hard in

class. The priorities for curriculum learning this term are on

English, Mathematics, Science and History/Geography.

When visiting classrooms, it is great to see students

working in groups, joining in discussions, engaging with

explicit instruction and showing their learning in these

areas. Students will engage in other learning as it relates

to their wellbeing throughout this term.

Yours sincerely,

Elise Berwick

Principal

Attendance Procedures

Earlier this year we developed draft Attendance Procedures in consultation with staff and our

Attendance Support Officer. These were tabled for P&C consideration and have now been finalised. A

copy will be sent to all families this week via Skoolbag. Having Attendance Procedures is an important

way for our school to communicate the expectations for student attendance and to ensure we meet the

NSW Department of Education policy requirements. We trust they will provide some clarity around a

variety of issues and processes regarding attendance. If you would like information about the

Department policy, please visit:

https://education.nsw.gov.au/policy-library/policies/pd-2005-0259

Christmas Hamper Appeal

We will be participating in the Gateway Christmas Food Hamper Appeal this year. It is an important

way for us to contribute to our local charity organisation and support those in need over Christmas. We

will be collecting donations from Monday 29 November to Friday 3 December. A list of required items

is shown here. We just ask that you do not send any glass bottles or jars to school please.

Blue Mountains City Council Community Survey

In 2018, Council, together with Stronger Families Alliance measured the perceived resilience and

wellbeing levels of the Blue Mountains community. This provided a baseline measure to which future

action could be planned and measured.

A lot has happened since then. Fire. Flood. Pandemic.

Everything has looked and felt very different compared to 2018. Parents, grandparents and carers;

please take our 10 minute Community Resilience and Wellbeing Survey, so that we can see how our

community is tracking https://yoursay.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/resilience-and-wellbeing.

The survey is open to all residents 12 years and over. It closes on the 30th of November.

Wellbeing Tips Did you know that one-third of school-aged children may experience sleep difficulties? Smiling Mind has a NEW ‘Sleep for Families Program’ to help the whole family sleep better. Update your Smiling Mind app today to enjoy interactive activities, meditations and more in their brand new program supported by Medibank. Check out the program here:- https://app.smilingmind.com.au/.../fam.../sleep-for-families

Here are some tips from Smiling Mind that may help your children to get a good night sleep:- 1. Get outside – Playing outside and exercising, either in the garden, at the park or playing sports,

dancing or just running around during the day gets you ready for bed at night. 2. Discuss worries during the day – We all worry at times. Sharing our worries with a loving parent

can help to relieve what is bothering us. Talking about worries just before bed however is not helpful for a good night’s sleep.

3. Meditate – Meditation can be a great way of settling the nervous system and the mind during the day and in the lead up to bed. This can be done individually or together as a family.

4. Stick to a regular bedtime – Believe or not, having regular sleep hours and going to bed at the same time each night, will help you sleep better. Ideally, the time you go to bed should not vary by more than an hour between a school night and weekends.

5. Send your devices to bed! – Stop using any screen devices at least 30 minutes before bed. They can reduce sleep quality and increase the time it takes to get to sleep.
