The P&C plays a very active and important role in our school community and is a major link between the school and our families. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the executive committee and sub-committees who gave generously of their time over the past year. It was certainly a busy one with the 75 th celebrations as well. Our dedicated parents and volunteers are committed to ensuring we are a strong school community which supports our children’s education. Thank you for your efforts! Over the past two years Mrs Adrienne Scalese led the P&C committee as President. Her efforts in working in collaboration with the school and community have been greatly appreciated. Adrienne worked with her committee to ensure Narrabeen North continues to provide quality programs and resources for children with the support of the P&C. To help continue the great work of the P&C we are looking for your support. The P&C manages some very important services for parents and students: Canteen Before and After School Care Uniform Shop Band/Music Program To provide these services the P&C requires volunteers to fill positions on the committee. Following the AGM the positions below require filling: President Vice President Treasurer If you’re interested in filling a position please contact the Secretary, Danielle Taylor, [email protected] Shave and Colour Day The annual Shave and Colour day is planned for Wednesday, 11 March. This important event celebrates the life of Jasmin Holliday, a past student, who passed away from leukaemia in 2007. As part of our award system students who achieve three Principal’s awards then receive a Narrabeen North gold banner. Banners are presented twice a term at a special assembly. Congratulations to our first banner recipients for 2015.

Congratulations to Greta and Henry, two Kindergarten children learning to write with a sentence a day!

Miss Russell’s Wrap Up… Jasmin’s Challenge – Shave and Colour Day On Wednesday, 11 March Narrabeen North will be hosting our 12th annual Shave and Colour to help raise funds for children battling cancer in the Westmead Children’s Hospital Oncology ward. We encourage all of our school community to become involved. All our students will be bringing home a note today asking for a $5 donation and permission to participate in this day. We are also looking for brave mums, dads, aunts and uncles that would be willing to raise money to have their head shaved or at lease cut very short. If you are interested in this please collect a sponsorship form from the office. The form can also be downloaded from the school website under—News. Students are also welcome to do this; however, it is asked that a minimum of $60 is to be collected per child to have their hair cut on stage. We would love for you to join us at 1.50pm in the JHA and enjoy the afternoon with us. The School Sign on Jackson Road Every Thursday afternoon or Friday morning we need to change our school sign on Jackson Road. If you think you would be able to donate your time for 15 minutes before pick up on Thursday or after drop off on Friday morning it would be greatly appreciated. In the past we have developed a roster and on average you would do this twice a term. Please come and see me or email me at [email protected] if you could help out. Thanks in advance. Year 7 Expression of Interest for placement in Year 7 2016 Today all Year 6 students were given their expression of interest for placement in Year 7 at a NSW Government School. This form needs to be completed for every Year 6 student. If parents are choosing for their child to attend a private high school, it’s mandatory that this form is still returned as each student making the transition from Year 6 to 7 needs to be tracked. It’s extremely important that the information on the forms is read carefully and that each section is completed appropriately. These forms are due back to your child’s classroom teacher no later than Friday, 20 March 2015. Tanya Russell Deputy Principal

Changes to student leave applications

The Department of Education and Communities has changed its policy guidelines regarding student leave. If you are taking children out of school for extended travel the following guidelines now apply: Travelling overseas for five or more school days – An application for extended leave-travel form needs to be completed and relevant travel documentation needs to be attached. For example an e-ticket. Travelling within Australia for ten or more school days – An application for extended leave-travel form needs to be completed and relevant documentation attached. For example an e-ticket or in the case of non-flight travel then an itinerary. These applications need to be approved by the principal prior to travel and a certificate will be issued. The form can be collected from the school office or downloaded from the school website under –Our School/Notes & Forms/General Notes.

Kids Club News

Welcome to a brand new year of Fun and Friendship.

Our new kindergarten children are settling happily in to the Kids Club routine. New friendships and fun activities have created a happy atmosphere at Kids Club. This term the children have enjoyed playing with their friends and making new ones. Games of ‘capture the flag’, cricket, bin ball and hockey have been popular. Cubby building and box collage have engaged the children’s sense of autonomy and self-esteem while playing with their peers. Active Sports Program: Unfortunately there is no funding available for this program to continue. We are seeking interested parents or a family member to share their skill in the area of a sport to help us run our own Active Sports Program. We are already fortunate enough to have a Cricket Clinic to be delivered in Term 2 (date to be confirmed). If you would be happy to come along and join us for just one afternoon from 4pm to 5pm to share your sport interest the children at Kids Club would have the opportunity to learn a new skill. We have modified our Service Approval to extend the number of children we can safely care for at Kids Club for both Morning and Afternoon care. Vacancies are available.
