The Newsletter from Narrabeen North Public School Week 2, Term 1 Thursday, 6 February 2020 From the Principal’s Desk… KINDERGARTEN WELCOME MORNING TEA It has been a very positive start for our Kindergarten students who commenced school on Monday. The children have settled in quickly and are already adjusting well to school life. It has been lovely to meet many of our new Kindergarten students on their first visit to the front office. Thank you to the welcome morning tea coordinators and P&C representatives for providing the friendly welcome to parents after they had dropped off their child/children to school. MEET THE TEACHER INFORMATION Next Monday, 10 February will be our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions. This provides an opportunity for parents to introduce themselves to the teacher, receive information on class routines and ask any questions. For parents with children in Years 1 – 6, the ‘Meet the Teacher’ afternoon will be from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. For Kindergarten parents the session will be in your child’s classroom from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. EXTRA-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS At the beginning of every year we establish many of our extra-curricular programs. These programs can be academic, sporting or in the creative arts, and they provide additional learning opportunities for students from K to Year 6. For each of the groups there are a limited number of positions available and places are often restricted based on competition guidelines. For this reason, we endeavour to give each student wishing to participate the best opportunity to be involved in a trial/audition. This week, and in coming weeks, selection processes will occur for many groups. This task requires considerable time and effort from teachers in coordinating multiple trials/auditions and then making difficult selection decisions. 6 Namona Street, North Narrabeen NSW 2101 Phone: 9913 7928 Fax: 9913 7873 e-mail: [email protected]Website: narranorth-p.schools.nsw.gov.au Before and After School Care: 9913 2846 Pittwater Zone PSSA Commences Week 6 Narrabeen North v Elanora Heights Boys Cricket Girls Cricket Tag Softball Tball Lake Park Narra Res B5 B1 B2 Dates to Remember Mon 10 Feb Wed 12 Feb Wed 26 Feb Fri 6 March Tues 10 March Wed 25 March Tues 7 April Thurs 9 April Thurs 9 April Thurs 9 April Thurs 9 April Tues 28 April Meet The Teacher: Years 1—6: 3.30pm—5:30pm Kindergarten: 5:00pm—6:00pm Band Parent Meeting: 8.00am P&C Meeting: 7.30pm PSSA Sport Starts Zone Swimming Carnival P&C Meeting: 7.30pm Cross Country Carnival Anzac Day Service Grandfriend’s Day Easter Hat Parade Last day of Term 1 Term 2 commences

We understand that many students will be
disappointed if unsuccessful, and therefore miss out
on being part of the group or team, particularly if
they were previously involved or have missed out on
other occasions.
Missing out on selection can be a valuable learning
opportunity for students as they are faced with
dealing with various emotions. At this time it is vital
that we talk openly with children about being resilient
– the ability to bounce back.
At school teachers discuss with children about
positive self-talk and keeping perspective on the
situation.
We also need your help.
As adults we know that throughout life we are faced
with situations that can bring disappointment and
which also affect our self-confidence.
This is when we should be talking positively to them
about ways to maintain self-confidence and their self-
esteem.
Please understand that if a child misses selection for a
group or team, parents approaching staff seeking
special exemption or reconsideration cannot be
accommodated.
As a school we have a responsibility to be fair to all
students in the process.
We seek your support in regards to this matter.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Congratulations to all children who yesterday
participated in the swimming carnival. It was pleasing
to see so many students getting involved in the
various races and giving their best.
Whilst there is a competitive element to races, I am
always impressed with the sportsmanship shown
between our students. They are first to congratulate
and acknowledge an outstanding effort.
Thank you to Mr Sutherland, Mr Prime and Mrs
Hendriks for their efforts in organising the carnival.
Thank you also to the staff for their hard work.
Thank you also to the hard-working parents who
helped on the day.
For those students who qualify, the Pittwater zone
carnival will be held Tuesday, 10 March at the
Warringah Aquatic Centre.

P&C News…
A warm welcome to our kindergarten families!!
We hope you've all settled into your classes and are
looking forward to the year ahead.
Just a reminder, recess and lunch orders are done
through the online flexischools app. Same for school
hats. If your hat is misplaced, please check in the lost
and found. Hats clearly labelled with a name are
easier to return to their owners.
The canteen is always looking for volunteers to assist
with food preparation and service times during the
day. It's a great way to volunteer your time and
experience the school environment.
The first P&C meeting for the year is on Wednesday,
26 February in the OOSH dome, from 7:30pm. All new
and returning members are welcome. Come along
and find out what we do and what's happening
around the school.
PLEASE NOTE: Whilst every attempt is made to verify bonafide advertisers, the school does not accept responsibility therefore parents should use their own discretion.
