    Project Management Capabilities

    International Project Management Award (IPMA)-2008Silver medal for Vindhyanchal, Stage-III(2x500 MW)from International Project Management Association.

    International Project Management Award (IPMA)-2005for Simhadri project for Project Excellence.

    NTPC has set up a state of art Project Management

    Centre (PMC) which provides milestone based ProjectMonitoring, real time network updation and real timevideo capture, apart from latest video conferencingfacility.

    DiversificationNTPC diversifying its fuel mix to include hydro, nuclear, renewable

    energy, etc. Two 1320 MW hydro projects already underimplementation.

    Plans to have 1000 MW capacity through renewable energy sourcesby 2017.

    JV Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd. formed as a joint venture beteenNTPC(49%) and NPICL(51%) to establish nuclear power projects.

    Has entered into power project services, renovation and

    modernization of power stations, captive power generation, etc.,through formation of joint venture companies.

    Acquired stakes in TELK and formed joint ventures with BHEL & BFL(Bharat Forge Ltd.).

    Attaining Fuel Security

    Long term Coal Supply Agreements with Coal India Ltd. andits subsidiaries(90% requirement fulfilled).

    Also, coal being procured through short term bilateralagreements with coal companies, import, e- auctions etc.

    Six coal blocks namely Pakri Barwadih, ChattiBriatu,Kirandari, Dulanga, Talaipalli and Chatti Briatu(South)allotted to NTPC by Govt. of India.

    Pakri-Barwadih is expected to start this year.

    NTPC has longterm Agreement with GAIL for supply ofPMT gas at APM price.

    Gas is being procured through firm and fallback supplyagreements for RLNG, KG-D6 gas from RIL.

    Technological Initiatives

    NTPC has chalked out a long termroadmap up to 2032.

    Some of the target technologies are:

    1. 800 MW super critical unit

    2. IGCC for Indian Coal

    3. Development of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell based

    fuel cell

    4. Ultra super critical units

    Efficiency and Environment

    Center for Power Efficiency and Environmental Protection(CenPEEP) stands as a symbol of NTPCs commitment

    towards green house gas (GHG) reduction.

    Over 30 million tones of CO2 have been avoided in NTPCover the last 15 years (up to Sep 2011).

    All NTPC stations ISO-14001 certified by reputedInternational certifying agencies.

    19 million trees planted by NTPC around its stations forenvironment protection.

    More than half of the gas produced at coal cased NTPCstations is utilized in manufacturing cement, concrete, road

    construction, land development etc.

    Research and Development

    Focus of NTPC energy Technology ResearchAlliance (NETRA) on Climate change, WasteManagement, New and Renewable Energy,Efficiency Improvement, Cost Reduction and

    Reliability of Stations.

    NETRA provides technical support to all NTPCstations and departments as well as International

    organisations.

    NETRAs laboratories are ISO 17025 accreditedand provide high end scientific services.

    Human Resource ManagementNTPC takes pride in its highly motivated and

    competent human resource.Generation per employee has increased to 9.27 MUsduring 2010-11 reflecting the consistent improvement.

    Employee Relations :1. Conducive and healthy employee relations at NTPC

    marked by industrial harmony and mutual trust.

    2. Regular interactions amongst the management andapex forums of workmen called National BipartiteCommittee and with executives, forum named NTPCExecutive Federation of India

    Safety :1. Prime importance given by NTPC to occupational health and safety to

    all persons working in projects and stations.

    2. Qualified Safety Officers appointed all units.3. Line executives take full responsibility of safety management and take

    preventive measures.

    Training and Development :1. In line with its long-term objective of being a learning organization,

    NTPC has a policy of continuously investing in training anddevelopment of its employees and power sector professionals.

    2. NTPC imparts training at its sites as well at the corporate level in

    diverse areas suchas gen. management, power station operation andmaintenance, project construction, erection and commissioning andinformation technology.

    Responsible Corporate Citizen

    NTPC indulge in rehabilitation of ProjectAffected People (POPs).

    It brought its Corporate Social

    Responsibility - Community Development(CSR-CD) Policy in July 2004 forexpanding its horizon and social vision.

    Revised its CSR Community Developmentpolicy in August 2010 by keeping in mindthe changed scenario.

    Backbone of Power Sector

    NTPC has clicked several new projects for the development ofIndian Power Sector such as Jawaharlal Nehru National SolarMission (JNNSM), Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran yojana(RGGVY) etc.

    Working for electrification in 5 states under RGGVY.

    Provides consultancy services to various electricity board.Adopted 17 it is located in the vicinity of its Projects and is also

    setting up 8 new it is to meet the demand of skilled manpower.

    Setting up a Power Industrial Training Institute at Solapur and anInternational Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Raipur in

    Chhattisgarh.NTPC has listed 29 Projects around its operations stations toprovide electricity to the areas which comes under 5 KM range ofthese projects.

    Featured amongst the great places to work in India fromlast five years in various surveys.

    Awarded with many prizes like Productivity, Shram,Environment and Safety prize.

    Six employees of NTPC were awarded Prime MinistersShram Bhushan / Shram Shree Award for 2009 & 2010announced in 2011 by Ministry of Labour.
