The Port Gamble block (which includes the Port Gamble town site) covers approximately 4,300 acres in Kitsap County along State Route 104. The area is an ideal setting for recreational activities. Recreation Non-motorized recreation such as hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding are well suited to the Port Gamble area. The use of ATVs, motorcycles, or any other motorized vehicles is not permitted as they may damage roads, young trees and wildlife habitat. Roads are constructed for timberland management and are usually unmarked and may be primitive. Exercise caution while on the property. Please obey all posted signs. Signs may change to include closures of certain areas for varying reasons throughout the year, including wildlife protection areas and extreme fire danger closure. Hunting Hunting is permitted during open seasons unless other access restrictions are in place. Recreational users are advised to be especially cautious during these times. No target shooting is allowed at any time for the safety of all recreational users. Parking When visiting the Port Gamble area, park well off the road and DO NOT BLOCK GATES or side roads. Logging trucks with long loads can easily damage vehicles parked too close to the road or gate. In case of emergency, blocking vehicles may be forcibly towed. Parking is available at several locations as outlined on the map. Guidelines Recreation is day use only. Overnight camping is not permitted. Be sure to pack out your garbage as there are no refuse facilities within the block. Abuse of the property may result in permanent closure. Prevent forest fires. Do not throw out burning material, such as cigarette butts. Check the fire hazard rating before heading out. If you do see a forest fire, report it by calling the Department of Natural Resources’ 24-hour tip line at 1-800-562-6010. Visitors using Pope Resources’ property or other property managed by Olympic Resource Management do so at their own risk. Neither Pope Resources nor ORM is liable for damages and compensation to person or property arising from such use.
