As I think back over the past few weeks, the list would include this year?s M AAP Stars conference, a healthy foods cooking class, a student- led aquaponics seminar, a college tour excursion to Duluth / Superior, seventeen students earning Court of H onor, FOU R recent high school graduates, and so much more! All of these activities and accomplishments are evidence of the high level of involvement that our students have at Paladin, their passion and dedication to the community, and their positive school spirit. O ur students represent our school and our community in the best ways possible. We are fortunate to have so many experiential and service learning opportunities for Paladin and our students.This is only possible because of the time and effort put in by Paladin's students as well as our educators, student success coordinators, support staff and, most of all, donations and involvement from our community members and supportive families like you! With the school year coming to an end, let?s keep the positive vibes going as we gear up for prom, the M ay 19th graduation deadline, two extended overnight trips, J-term, and graduation on June 1st! Potential 2017 Graduates:

Mark your calendars!

If you would like to walk at graduation on June 1st, you must have no more than .25 credits remaining on M ay 19th.

Potential graduates have been meeting with Sarah Sannes to review credits and graduation requirements.  Stop by ASAP, if you haven't seen her yet.

Seniors who do not meet the credit deadline will receive their diploma once they meet the credit requirements.

Paladin?s class of 2017 will celebrate their high school accomplishments on Thursday, June 1st at 7:00 pm at the N ational Sports Center.

Graduates will receive a letter with information about the ceremony and up to 6 tickets to distribute among family and friends.  

We look forward to congratulating all of our 2017 graduates on their completion of this huge milestone.

(POST SECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTIONS)

Students who are interested in Post-secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) for Fall 2017 - M UST SEE SARAH ASAP

The PSEO deadline is M ay 30, 2017.  

Fall semester college courses begin on August 21st, so students who take PSEO classes in the fall will need to be able to start college prior to the beginning of Paladin?s start date of September 5th.  

2017 CONFERENCEAll three teams competing in Team M anagement and Team Parenting received silver or higher with two teams advancing with Gold in both categories. (Team 1: Deeqa Jama, Mason Estevez, Fardowso Abdi; Team 2: Talia Coleman, Samantha Chapman, Cassie Johnson, Slade Mangen-Johnson; Team 3: Carl Fisher, Destynee Morris, Alexander Brueske, Callie Johnson)

Talia?s speech went to the final round in which she placed in the top ten students for all of M innesota.

Darian placed eighth in state for Workplace Solutions. He also performed his spoken word piece.

Donavayn and Deeqa were well received for their art work and project demo.

Carl opened and closed the ceremonies. He gave a speech and was in Team events.

Each month, Paladin's Work-Based Learning Coordinators choose one student from their Quad to be recognized as their "Employee of the M onth." These students have shown dedication to their responsibilities and are fine examples of professional young adults.

Paladin will be hosting a driver's permit test at school on M ay 16 at 9:30 a.m.

Requirem ents

- If you are under 18 years of age, you must have COM PLETED a Driver?s Education Program and have a blue card.

- If you are 18 years old or older, you do not need verification of any courses.

- Please see Courtney to determine what documents you will need to take the exam. You must have two forms.

Fees- If you've never taken your permit test, it is

FREE. If you've already taken your test 2 times, you will need to pay $10.

- If you pass the test, the permit is $13.25

At Paladin we understand that a comfortable, inviting environment is pivotal to feeling at ease and ready to learn. Paladin has enlisted the services of M averick, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever and registered Pet Partners therapy dog to visit on a weekly basis. Students have already formed a great connection with M averick, who, in his spare time, enjoys long walks in the woods, playing fetch, and swimming.

Special thanks to his handler: Life Science Teacher and Success Coordinator, Tyler Pilz.

MAVERICK THE THERAPY DOG

Wellness Grant - $5,000

Amanda Tkaczik, Paladin's Americorps Promise Fellow for the 2016-17 school year, applied for and received the Serve A Smile Grant of $1,500 through Delta Dental. She, along with some of our students, put together five boxes filled with sensory items. These tactile items stimulate or calm each of the five senses, often times helping a person self-regulate when they are feeling heightened emotions, or by offering a distraction when talking through difficult discussion subjects. Paladin students were involved throughout the process, from picking fabric and constructing weighted tie blankets, to assembling the items together in five large totes. Each sensory box has items to address all five senses.

Items included cool mist diffusers with essential oils, weighted blankets, fidget toys, coloring pages, candy, and mini zen gardens.  Four of the boxes will be located in Paladin's counseling and meditation rooms, while the fifth box will be donated to Children's Hospital.

J-TERM COMING SOON - JUNE 5TH - 9TH

In the months of M ay and June, Paladin students will be examining the meaning and value of such virtues as Resilience, Humility, Commitment, and Independence. By focusing on these character traits, Paladin students will continue to cultivate a positive, supportive school climate where academic success can flourish. It is through a culture of mindful excellence that we hope to equip and empower these leaders of tomorrow.

As an additional incentive to encourage students to do their best, there will be an end-of-year field tr ip to Valleyfair that is exclusive to those students who have earned Court of Honor membership during three or more months of this school year. All students should work toward this goal!
