UPCOMING EVENTS

Page 2: October 2011

On September 24th, thousands walked in Victory Field to

help fund the cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma. Francis

Lewis High School Key Club and District 8A are proud to

say that we were amongst these dedicated walkers.

One night. One mission. Relentless for a cure. As we strolled alongside our friends,

a sea of red, illuminated balloons

blanketed the crowed in front of us.

The bright balloons are the heart of Light the Night, whose

purpose is to “bring help and hope to people battling blood

cancers.” All donations go to providing lifesaving blood cancer

research, free educational materials and events for patients and

their families, local programs such as Family Support Groups

and a peer-to-peer counseling program, and comprehensive,

personalized assistance through the Information Resource

Center. Each balloon’s color holds significance – white is for

survivors, red is for supporters, and gold is in memory of those

lost to cancer. This year’s inspirational walk was a success and I

think few will disagree when I say it was also a blast.

PROJECT ELIMINATE

With the help of Francis Lewis High School Key Club, Kiwanis seeks to protect and save the lives of millions of newborns and their mothers. Maternal neonatal tetanus is a deadly yet preventable disease which may be eradicated when put our brightest minds and most inspirational tasks forward. The funds raised for The Eliminate Project will go to providing vaccines, syringes, safe transport and storage, education, and training in the regions of the world that most need the cure. Only three doses of the vaccine, which is $1.80, could save the life of a mother and her child.
