    This week, I'd like to officially welcome Leah Boyd, whojoined the Honors staff last week as an assistant director.Leah graduated from Clemson in May with a master's degreein counseling education, and served throughout the springand summer as one of our graduate assistants. Her primaryresponsibilities will involve advising and counseling Honorsstudents. I know you'll all enjoy working with Leah, and thatyou will find her a wonderful resource to help work out youreducational program, guide you through any difficulties orproblems, and assist you in figuring out your life and career

    plans. Welcome aboard, Leah!

    We also say goodbye this week to Dana Irvin, so please besure to attend today's farewell reception from 3:00-4:30pmin the Holmes Basement Honors Center. It's hard to find thewords to thank Dana for all her contributions to the HonorsCollege and for all her efforts on behalf of our students. Welook forward to seeing you this afternoon. Dr. Lasser

    Honors Community Service Events!

    "Our Daily Rest This event will be

    preparing and serving a meal at OurDaily Rest on September 12, from4:30pm-7:30pm.

    We will meet in the first-floor kitchen ofHolmes at 4:30pm to prepare themeal. We will depart from the first-floorHolmes kitchen between 5:30pm-5:45pm in order to get to Our Daily Restand set-up the dining area before weserve dinner at 6:30pm. Questions?Contact Tabitha [email protected].

    Experimental Forest Clean-Up

    This event will be Saturday, Sep-tember 20 from 10:30am -12:30pm-ish.

    Please meet in the Fish Bowl. Glovesand trash bags are provided. If youwould like, bring money for lunch, andindividuals cars can decide whether youwould like to get lunch out or eat in thedining hall when we return.

    National Science FoundationGraduate Research Fellowship

    If you are a senior who is applying to

    graduate school in the STEM fields orthe non-clinical Social Sciences, youshould plan to apply for the NSFGRF thisfall. There will be a series of workshopsto introduce you to the NSFGRF and tohelp you write a competitive applicationstarting on Monday, September 22nd at7pm in 200 Holtzendorff.     The Duckenfeld Scholars Program

    The Christopher J. Duckenfield Scholars Program

    St. Peter's Summer School at

    Magdalen College, Oxford, England

    Date of Program: July 4 - August 8, 2015

    The Duckenfield Scholars Program is designed to identify andenable one or two members of the Calhoun Honors College,

    who demonstrate extraordinary talent, motivation, commit-ment, and ability, to attend St. Peter's Summer School at

    Magdalen College, Oxford University, each summer. The pro-gram has been established for students who desire to experi-

    ence another culture and to broaden their global perspective.

    Application and Instructions

    Application to the program is open to currently enrolled Cal-houn Honors College students who have been at Clemson forat least one full year at the time of their application. Priority

    will be given to those who have a least one year remainingbefore graduation.

    Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, Novem-ber 14, 2014. Late and/or hand written applications will not

    be accepted.
