As we navigate our new path, we're counting on advice and ideas from all our students, but especially from those on the Honors Student Advisory Board (HSAB). The HSAB has been directly responsible for several of the most popular Honors College initiatives. In addi- tion, we count on the HSAB to be a sounding board for ideas developed by Honors faculty and staff, and to give us feedback about current programs and policies. The Board is currently accepting applications for new members, from all classes and majors (this includes freshmen and other new members of the Honors Col- lege!). To learn more about the HSAB and about the application process, see the detailed information on page 3 of this newsletter. On behalf of the Honors College, I want to thank the current and past members of the Board for their ser- vice, support, and ideas. NSF GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP -
The NSF GRFP is a generous and prestigious award that supports research-oriented students in sci-ence, engineering and mathematics disciplines through funding for graduate school (annual $34,000 stipend plus $12,000 Cost of Education Allowance).
To be eligible, applicants must be either rising seniors or 1st year or 2nd year graduate students, and be US Citizens or Permanent Residents. Eligible fields of study are: Chemistry, Computer and Infor-mation Science and Engineering, Engineering, Geosciences, Life Sciences, Material Research, Mathe-matical Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Psychology, Social Sciences, and STEM Education and Learning Research. Students in medical and other clinical fields are not eligible.
National deadlines are October 26 - 30, depending on field of study. More details are at
www.nsfgrfp.org.
A series of two workshops and two drop-in help sessions to help students prepare competitive appli-cations for the GRFP will be offered at Clemson. You do not need to pre-register to attend any of these workshops. The focus and content of each workshop is different, so it is recommended that students applying for the GRFP attend both workshops.
Workshop 2: Writing the NSF GRFP “Personal Statement, Relevant Background and Fu-
ture Goals Essay” and the “Graduate Research Statement”
Thursday, September 17 7pm – 200 Holtzendorff Hall
This workshop focuses on how to tell your story (personal, professional and educational) in ways that support your research and career plans. This workshop will also focus on how to write effectively about your research plan in ways that meet the NSF review criteria, as well as writing and revision strategies.
Drop-in Help Sessions for working on your application. Thursday, October 1 and October 8 7-8:30pm - 313 Academic Success Center
