    From the

You'd think that people who work in higher education would get usedto arrivals and departures--every year, we have to say goodbye toone class of graduates and then turn around almost instantly to wel-come a new class of freshmen. But familiarity doesn't seem to makefarewells any easier.

Next week marks the retirement of Dana Irvin, who over the past 16years has served as adviser to thousands of Honors College students.Semester after semester, Dana has helped students sort our theirlives, deal with roommate issues, choose their majors and classes, and make the kinds of life-changing decisions everyone has to makeduring the course of their college careers. She has the uncanny abil-

ity to say the right word, provide the right glance, or just listen as if,for that moment, the student is the only other person in the world. All of us in the Honors College will miss her very much.

Please be sure to join us on Monday, September 8 from 3-4:30pmin the Holmes Basement Honors Center for a reception to honor DanaIrvin on the occasion of her retirement. We look forward to seeingyou there.
