Spend £3 a month on one.

7. What are your opinions/thoughts on the following music magazine front covers?

I’m familiar with the artist

Drake so I like that,

however I dislike the use

of white on it as it isn’t a

vibrant colour.

I dislike that I don’t know

the featured model on

the front cover therefore

magazine doesn’t interest

me. Although I like Q as a

music magazine brand.

NME is my favourite music

magazine brand so I like

this however I dislike

reading about drug stories

and the main article is

about this so it puts me

off this particular issue.

Interview 2

1. What is your gender?

Female.

I like the layout of

“contents” as it’s

unique, something I

dislike would be the

dark background as

it’s boring.

The layout is really

professional which is

something I like, I

don’t have any dislikes

to this contents page.

The contents page looks

too overcrowded with text

so this would be

something I dislike

although the teaser of an

article in the magazine

entices me to read on

which is something I like.

I like how the pictures are laid out,

they’re laid out in an interesting,

unique format. I dislike however the

variety of colours, I prefer a more

consistent colour scheme.

The close up of Lady Gaga is

something I really like however the

text is very small in a large quantity

and is a bit tedious to read.

One thing I like is the image is quite

patriarchal however a dislike of

mine would be I don’t know the

model so don’t have an interest on

the article about her.

I really like how well

“VIBE” stands out on the

page however I don’t like

Drake’s music and with

him being the featured

artist this issue it puts me

off the issue.

I like how the model

takes up the whole front

cover. Although

something I dislike is I

don’t know who she is

so the issue doesn’t

engage me.

NME is a music magazine I

really like and one I buy

weekly, I don’t have any

dislikes with this front

cover.

1. What is your gender?

Male.

I don’t like anything

about this contents

page, I don’t know

the artist and dislike

how small the text is

in proportion to the

page.

This contents page

looks really

professional due to

the magazine

consistently using the

same colours. I don’t

have any dislikes with

this contents page.

I dislike the self-

promotion of the

subscription plan

especially due to it being

fairly big. I do however

like the band index as I

can efficiently locate

bands of my interests in

the magazine.

I like the contrast in colours in the

images how it goes from dark to

light. A dislike would be the dark

blue text as it doesn’t follow the

magazines colour scheme.

I really like the big “L” to begin her

name especially the fact that it’s

coloured yet transparent allowing the

text to still be read. However I dislike

the amount of text there is.

I like how concise the article is as

articles with large amounts of text

can be boring to read. I don’t dislike

anything about this double page

spread.

I like the use of white on

black as it allows the text

to stand out clear. I don’t

like the use of yellow

when it’s used on small

print like on this front

cover as it’s harder to

read.

I like the variety in font

sizes to show what’s

important about each

piece of print. A dislike

of mine is the logo ends

quite abruptly leaving a

colour contrast between

the logo and image.

Something I like about this

magazine is a range of

articles are advertised on

the front cover. In terms

of dislikes I don’t have any

with this front cover.

spreads?

Interview 4

One thing I dislike is

that the magazine

logo is in black on a

dark background so is

very hard to see.

Another dislike I have

is I’m not familiar

with the model. I

don’t like anything in

particular about this

contents page.

I like how articles in

the magazine have

screenshots on the

contents page.

Something I dislike is

how short the

contents text is, only

major articles are

listed.

I really like the different

sections which splits up

content within the

magazine. However I

dislike the personal

promotion.

The bright colours of the models

dress stand out on light background

which is effective. Although some of

the print colour clashes with the

backdrop making it harder to read.

I like the large amount of the spread

Lady Gaga takes up as it reduces the

amount of text to read. I don’t dislike

anything about this double page

spread.

The silver background looks very

professional which is good,

however I’d prefer if the model

was bigger as she doesn’t take up

a large amount of the page

despite there being room for her

to.

VIBE the brand name is in

bold letters in white on a

black backdrop so

consumers instantly know

what magazine reading.

Furthermore I think the

front cover looks very

professional.

The use of the rhetorical

question on “BROKEN

MAN?” engages me and

other consumers with the

magazine.

The white lettering

effectively stands out

due to Florence’s ginger

hair. I like how Florence

is looking directly at the

camera therefore

audience.

I think this contents

page is very

unprofessional.

This contents page

looks very

professional, the

consistent layout and

colour scheme helps

this.

It’s very informative in

terms of what’s where in

the magazine.

I really like the layout of the images,

the background however makes

some of the print hard to read

especially with it being so small.

The image of Lady Gaga is very

photogenic and the black and white

creates a classic feel.

The silver theme creates a

professional style and the model is

in a seductive pose which will

attract the eyes of males.

favourite artist so I’m

instantly interested in the

magazine. I like the yellow

and black colour scheme.

This front cover looks very

professional.

I like how the shot of

Florence is close up how

she’s looking directly at

the camera.

I like the artist’s

music who’s the

model and like the

layout of

“CONTENTS”.

The layout of the

contents page looks

professional, the large

numbers telling you

where the big articles

are located is helpful.

The band index is a

helpful feature and I like

the article teaser.

I like the use of a range of different

images, the spread in my opinion

looks very professional.

I like the shot of Lady Gaga and also

the use of the big red “L”.

I think it would be better if the

model took up more of the spread

and if the text was in a bigger font

size.

I really like the use of

yellow and black, they

complement each other

very well. In addition I

think the front cover looks

professional.

I like how they’ve used

the model’s hair as a

background for some

text.

I like how they’ve

advertised a range of

articles on the front

cover.

There’s a lot of space

available, I think it

looks better if the

vast majority of space

is filled.

There is a lot images

which I like and I think

the contents page in

general looks

professional.

I like the use of the

different sections down

the right hand side

splitting up the content in

the magazine.

I think the light background is

professional however some text is in

a light colour and marginally clashes

with the background.

The black and white background on

the image connotes classical ideas. A

criticism I have is I feel the article is

too long.

I like how prominent “USA” is on

the page however I feel the model

would benefit from being as

prominent.
