    Proclaiming the Gospel of God

Jesus is very busy in the beginning

    of Mark’s gospel – proclaiming,

teaching, healing. And calling others to

come and follow. The responses of

Simon and Andrew, of James and John

    were immediate: stopping what they

were doing, leaving it all behind

    without hesitation – they followed

him. Stay tuned to this whole liturgical

year to see where that leads.

    • What of the good news of God is

    Jesus proclaiming to me today?

    • How am I hesitating in giving Jesus

    Christ my immediate attention and

    response?

    • What am I leaving behind,

stopping doing in order to follow

    Jesus in more faithful ways?

St. Vincent de Paul Weekly Reflection In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says: “Come after me,

and I will make you fishers of men.” As disciples, we

are called to continue God’s work on earth. Taking

care of God’s poor is indeed living gospel values.

This month, through your gifts, the Society of St.

Vincent de Paul was able to assist families, provide

food and offer financial assistance for utility, rent and other bills. May God Bless

You! And as a volunteer with SVDP, you can help others in a way that will fit

into your busy life. Vincentians are volunteers who are people just like you from

all walks of life—those who want to help their community by giving their and

talent for the greater good. Please call Robert or Felicia Johnson (513) 254-0471)

or Linda Knight (513-344-3907) for more information.

SVDP Coat Distribution 2020 ends this week: Cincinnati winters can be

anywhere from fair to frigid, so each winter we give away free coat distributions

for our neighbors in need. Due to restrictions brought on by the COVID-19

pandemic, we are not holding our traditional coat distributions this year. Instead,

we are issuing vouchers for coats that can be redeemed at any of our seven

Cincinnati thrift stores. Neighbors in need of a coat should contact their

Conference or call our help line at 513-421-0602. Vouchers will be extended,

based on availability of coats, from November 15, 2020 through January 28,

2021. All vouchers must be redeemed within 30 days of being issued. A photo ID

for all family members receiving a coat is required.

Other Services: To safeguard public health during COVID-19, our facility

is currently closed to the public. We offer drive-through/walk-through service

for pharmacy and pantry needs. Please call ahead if you are utilizing the

pharmacy (513-345-4990) or food pantry (513-562-8850).

Remembering Our Parish in Your Will : As many of you know, every year St.

Joseph receives bequests from parishioners’ estates. We are most appreciative for

these generous gifts to our parish. Gifts such as these help us to continue to

share God’s word through our various worship programs and ministries. We are

often asked how to make such a bequest, and it is very simple. When you call or

visit your attorney, discuss adding the following language to your will or codicil:

“0.00 or 0 % of estate to be distributed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, currently located at

745 Ezzard Charles Dr., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203. If the church is not in existence at my

death, the distribution to it shall be made to the successor institution into which it was merged.

If there is no successor or merged institution, the bequest shall lapse.”

    Feb. 3, 1:30-3:00 PM & Feb. 4, 7:00-8:30 PM

Today is the Sunday of the Word of God

Pope Francis instituted The Sunday of the Word of God to be held every year on

the third Sunday of Ordinary Time, with the Apostolic Letter in the form of a

Motu proprio "Aperuit illis," issued on September 30, 2019. The Pope intended it

to be a day dedicated to the celebration, reflection, and dissemination of the

Word. According to Cardinal Robert Sarah it “is a means to help people

reawaken an awareness of the importance of Sacred Scripture for our lives as

believers, beginning with its resonance in the liturgy which places us in living and

    permanent dialogue with God.”

To commemorate this Sunday, perhaps dedicate some family time this week

for a brief reading of a Scripture passage, perhaps the Sunday Gospel. Given the

hectic and stressed pace of life and our typically overworked schedules, making

family time for the Bible reminds us of the need to put God first. Also, gathering

around the table of God’s Word enriches and strengthens the experience of

    family.

  • Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our

community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may

they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close

wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May

these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking

you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who

    believed. Amen.

    Hear Our Prayer

    Prayer for Vocations

    Almighty Father: You have created

for us some definite purpose. Grant

us the grace to know the path You

have planned for us in this life and

to respond with a generous “Yes.”

    Make our archdiocese, parishes,

homes and hearts fruitful ground for

Your gift of vocations. May our

young people respond to Your call

with courage and zeal. Stir among

our men a desire and the strength to

be good and holy priests. Bless us

    with consecrated religious and those

called to a chaste single life,

    permanent deacons, and faithful

husbands and wives, who are a sign

of Christ’s love for His Church. We

    commend our prayer for vocations

    to You, Father, through the

intercession of Mary our Mother, in

the Holy Spirit, through Christ our

    Lord. Amen.

We congratulate our Council #363, Knights of Peter Claver and the Ladies Auxiliary (Northern

States) on the installation of their new group of officers for 2021. The installation ceremony was

held at St. Joseph Catholic Church two weeks ago following the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass.

The list of officers for both groups and photos of the day are provided below.

The Knights of Peter Claver, Inc. is the largest historically African-American Catholic lay

organization in the United States. The Order is named for St. Peter Claver, the Spanish priest who

ministered to African slaves. In 2006, a unit was established in San Andres, Colombia, South

America. The Order was founded in Mobile, Alabama in 1909 and is presently headquartered in

    New Orleans.

The organization consists of six Divisions: Knights of Peter Claver, Knights of Peter Claver Ladies

Auxiliary, Junior Knights, Junior Daughters, 4th Degree Knights and Ladies of Grace. The Order is governed by a Board of Directors

and is under the leadership of the Supreme Knight and Supreme Lady, KPCLA. The Order is operated under the direction of the

Executive Director and his staff. They are divided into six Districts and States across the country. Each district or state is

represented by a Deputy and other conference officers. Districts, States, and other Divisions are represented on the Board of

Directors. Their Junior Division welcomes Catholic youth between the ages of 7-18. They are organized using the same structure of

the Senior Division. There is a Junior Supreme Knight, Junior Supreme Lady, along with Junior District or State Presidents and

Officers. Interested youth must have made their First Holy Communion.

The Knights and Ladies Auxiliary’s purpose is to render service to God and His Holy Church, render aid and assistance to the

sick and disabled, and promote social and intellectual association among our members.
