Reflection: October 11, 2020

Don’t Kill the Messenger!

We have another Kingdom of

God/Heaven parable today. It is

about being gracious and

prepared. Who, in a right mind, would

snub a gracious invitation to a

feast? Who, in a right mind, would kill

the messenger? It happened to

Jesus. We should not be surprised

when it happens to us in little or big

ways. Still, we must announce: “Come

to the feast, come to the

Kingdom.” The required wedding

garment in this gospel feast reminds us,

who live in this Kingdom of God, to

always imagine we wear our baptismal

cloths; and, thus, always remember to

act as faithful disciples.

Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our

community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may

they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close

wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May

these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking

you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who

believed. Amen.

Prayer for

Vocations

Almighty

Father: You

have created

for us some definite purpose. Grant

us the grace to know the path You

have planned for us in this life and

to respond with a generous “Yes.”

Make our archdiocese, parishes,

homes and hearts fruitful ground for

Your gift of vocations. May our

young people respond to Your call

with courage and zeal. Stir among

our men a desire and the strength to

be good and holy priests. Bless us

with consecrated religious and those

called to a chaste single life,

permanent deacons, and faithful

husbands and wives, who are a sign

of Christ’s love for His Church. We

commend our prayer for vocations

to You, Father, through the

intercession of Mary our Mother, in

the Holy Spirit, through Christ our

Lord. Amen.

Celebrating the Cloud of Witness

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Offices of African American Ministries and Social Action are collaborating with the

Archdiocese of Washington D.C., the United Conference of Catholic Bishops – African American Affairs; and the Tolton

of Catholic candidates for sainthood. They have promised to have a focused dialogue in the areas of racism, sexism, ageism,

poverty, authentic worship, and more. The grout will celebrate how they triumphed over tragedies and to learn how we can

do the same. The event is scheduled for three consecutive Saturdays [November 7, November 14 and November 21]. Two of

the candidates will be highlighted at each event. All participants must register at https://www.eventbrite.com/
