International Convention Recap and K-Family Update

4

Steven Spriggs (past Texas-Oklahoma Circle K Governor; past Texas-Oklahoma Convention Liaison; past Key Club Lt. Governor for Division 18) is now the new Circle K International President!

ICON: Hot spot, cool times.

Approximately 1,500 Key Clubbers from 31 countries worldwide gathered in the sunny city of Phoenix, Arizona for the

Key Club International Convention. There, delegates from all over voted on amendments to keep the Key Club bylaws up-to-date, voted for a new International Board, were given a sneak peek at the upcoming ELIMINATE project with UNICEF, and participated in

a walk to raise money to help eliminate MNT. During ICON, twenty-five Key Clubbers ran for the position

of International Trustee, as well as two candidates that ran for the position of Vice President and President. By the end of the

convention eleven Trustees had been elected as well as one International President and one International Vice President.

Annie Lewandowski, from the Pacific Northwest District (Texas-Oklahoma’s Immediate Past Trustee!) was elected as the

President of Key Club International, and Catt Lovins from the Southwest District was elected as the International Vice President.

During opening session, a UNICEF representative shared plans for the involvement of the K-Family in the Eliminate Project;

the project will span 5 years and aims to raise $110 million to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) from the world.

I’ll be sure to keep you updated on any ELIMINATE or International news as soon as it happens!

Youth Opportunity Fund [YOF]

Get a grant for your service project!

You already pay your dues, so why not reap the benefits and put them to good use?!

Through Kiwanis International, you can request a grant ranging anywhere from $100 to $2000 to help you fund a local service project. Many clubs are held back by their inability to fundraise for large scale projects and that’s where the grant comes to the rescue. Large clubs and small clubs alike have the ability to impact their home, schools, and community in a way like they have never before.

Schools before have bought audio-books and books to donate to local elementary schools; Key Clubbers later went back to read the books they donated to the children. There are so many ways that you can think outside the box to help your community!

For more information, please contact me further and I’d love to help you out and give you all the information and application. The deadline for applications is October 15th. On October 15th, they MUST be postmarked and in the mail to Kiwanis International in Indianapolis, Indiana.

For more information and ideas visit: http://www.keyclub.org/service/yof.aspx

Start brainstorming and planning out your project TODAY to apply for a YOF grant! It’s never too early to start…

Above: Key Clubbers from Whitney High School Key Club in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District used their Youth Opportunity Fund grant to buy basic necessities, toys, and school supplies to bring to three orphanages in Baja, Mexico. The project impacted around 150 children in 3 different orphanages.
