In Memory Of...Bill Green, a long time friend and member, passed away on October 18th at his residence. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to Master’s Hand Lighthouse Chapel of the Deaf. He is survived by his wife Gail Green, his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and friends. He was thrilled to be able to make his 50th class reunion before passing away two weeks after.
Family and friends of Marty Belsky had a beautiful memorial service at MSD and FAD the day after MSD Homecoming. Everyone enjoyed stories told by this amazing man. He is sorely missed!
They day before his memorial service, MSD students and staff along with his family attended a dedication service. MSD’s Gymnasium is now called the Martin Belsky Gymnasium. Very fitting as he was a long time basketball coach and a huge Tartar fan!
Well Wishes!
Diana McKittrick had a complete shoulder replacement and carpel tunnel surgery on her left side. She is recuperating very well.
Susan Southward had surgery to repair the tear in her shoulder's rotor cuff and some bone spurs. She stayed with her niece for a week before returning home. She is doing very well.
Did you hear? In addition to Marty Belsky having the MSD Gym named after him, two other FAD members received MSD honors as well. MSD’s office complex was named after Earl Jones - as a long time teacher and administrator at MSD. He was also MSD’s first deaf principal. Dallas Barker had the MSD High School wing named after him. Dallas Barker has been the MSD Historian for many years. The other honorees were Camille Jeter (Dining Entertainment Center), Chuck Leman (Media Center), Carol Harris (Elementary Wing), and Francine McDonald (Stevens Hall Atrium)
Peppy Stuckless is a grandma for the 9th time! This time she was with her daughter and witnessed the birth. It was beautiful. The family decided to have a water birth in their living room with the whole family. Peppy says it was awesome and amazing and would love to tell
you the story of this birth. Join her in welcoming Regan Harper Reimneitiz. She was 9lbs 8oz and 21 inches long.
Cindy Beyer with Jim Leyland , Detroit Tigers Manager. He bought the Tigers back from obscurity to a team that made the playoffs. Many FADers enjoyed cheering the Tigers this season.
Bob Guthrie's granddaughter was crowned Queen of the Homecoming Court at Clio. She is Jessica July, daughter of Bob's daughter, Wendy. Kalin Leonard, was crowned King of his homecoming court at Johannsburg/Lewiston High School. He is the grandson of Maureen and David, son of Cathy. Allie, granddaughter of Bonnie Liquia, was one of the princesses of Swartz Creek homecoming court. She is the daughter of Kali.
All the grandkids were honored by their respective schools on the same night!
Rocky Dreyer bagged two deer on his birthday. Rocky and Katie look forward to months of deer venison for dinner!
Marty and Linda Galentine hosted a 50th Birthday party for Steve Whittington. Everyone had a great time catching up with old friends.
During the MSD Homecoming weekend, there was a 100 year celebration of Fay Hall and several hundred of people were there! They got to tour the new change in the building. It is now Power's Catholic High School. The staff were wonderful letting them go through the building. Former MSD students remembered their old days there. CAC also had the building open for tours and over 100 people came through. The reason people were going through was to remember their days at Gilbert Hall as students. Some wanted to see the new changes as CAC. Then the Superintendent Cottage was open for a tour and over 100 people went through.
Sharon Smith reports that the MSD’s Class of 1963 had an amazing class reunion. 30 alumni showed up. Dallas Barker was on hand to give a history presentation. Marlene Jones donated a beautiful fall quilt as a prize. Big thanks to Ricky Drake and Ron Smith for helping out! Everyone had a blast.
About 125 people attended FAD’s Homecoming Bash on October 5th and they enjoyed the games that was held. The Euchre winners were Paul Trayner (35); Ken Lowrie (30); Terry Misener (20); James LaHaye (20 and Bob Wollard (15). The Lucky 52 winners were Frank Hardenburgh (65); Barb McNally (30); Bonnie Liquia (20); John Coggins/Peckingham (25); Mark Levinson (45). 50/50 Raffle winners were Peggy Frelich (8) and Barb McNally (7).
MSD Boys Football bought won their first football game in over 30 years! Danny Kennedy is one of the coaches and Miranda Kennedy’s brother, Zachary is one of the star players. Other Deaf Coaches are Sam Oates, Jr and Caleb Potter. May the boys win many more games in the future!!
During the Old Fashioned Picnic, an omission was deleted from the list of winners. Phyllis Christensen won the gnomes for her flower garden.
