Hello there, my name Erica Jane Apostolos and I am serving as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2014 to 2015 term. If you are wondering yes, my last name is Greek. Anyways, I am sixteen years old and am currently attending Heritage High School as a junior. I am the youngest of my five siblings and live with my two parents, twin sisters, and annoying dog Aurora, which I love. I have been in Key Club since my sophomore year. I went to my first meeting not knowing anyone in the club or even what Key Club was, but eventually I joined and came to love this organization and the friends that I made along the way. Although I was already an extremely dedicated member, after I became an officer Key Club really became my life. Outside of Key Club I ran Varsity 400 meter and 4x4 in Track and Field for two years. I used to really like running, hiking, dancing, and swimming, but honestly have not exercised in quite a while. I love singing and dancing despite the fact I may not do either very well. You all will judge me, but I do not like sushi or any other type of fish, except tuna. I have been called a picky eater. I like boba though and pretty much any other sweets. My top ten favorite movies are Sweet Home Alabama, Mulan, Never Back Down, Les Miserables, Tarzan, Tangled, Zombieland, Pineapple Express, Bridesmaids, and 10 Things I Hate About You. I also really love animals. My pet peeves are when people scratch their dry skin with long nails. It is seriously like nails on a chalkboard to me. I cannot stand slow walkers, people who chew obnoxiously loud, and washing your hands and not having a towel to try them with.

LIETENANT GOVERNOR

Message from your

Hey Polar Bears!

This is your Lieutenant Governor here! This is our

third year as Division 6 South and we have grown so

much. So now it is time to celebrate! Time to celebrate all

we have accomplished and time to reach for higher

achievements! We are starting out so strong and I want to

continue that. It is amazing to be a part of this

organization and the atmosphere it provides. Everyone is

so loving and are all striving for the same goal of helping

others. It was all of you that inspired me to run for this

position. Not only do I want to say thank you for all that

you do, but I want to give back the love, support,

memories, and experience you all and Key Club have

given me. Throughout this year I want to be there to give

you advice, to vent to, to answer your questions, or

whatever you need. I am here for you.

Sincerely,

Erica Apostolos

Key to College is an annual event for Region 4 Key Clubbers hosted by UCR Circle K.

This event gives college-bound students a better understanding of what to expect and how

to adapt to the many changes they would experience at a university. This year workshops

ranged from financial aid, to college life, to Circle K. Many Key Clubbers gained much

knowledge on how to get free money through grants and scholarships and how to properly

spend their money in college. Members also had the opportunity to ask real college

students any questions they had. This event helped introduce the members to the world of

Circle K and college while bonding with their fellow Region 4 family.

On April 25, 2014 Heritage Key Club held our fourth Wii Party. Although we held this event several times before, it never seems to grow old to the members. Everyone is always so excited for this particular fundraising social.

In the beginning there was a lot of work needed to be done. We all donated items for the event and decorated it to fit our Hawaiian theme. It was fun to decorate and seeing how creative people were. The Heritage Treasurer, Mitchell Kaake, who was the Head Chair of this event made a photo booth out of poster paper! He created a beach background so members could gather and capture the memories of that night, like tourists. Another fellow member, Citlali Martinez, drew Hawaiian flowers to put around the room. These small changes made it that much better and gave it a tad more of an authentic Hawaiian feel.

Our main event was the Wii Tournament. We held this competition to see who would take home the prize. The contestants battled it out, competing against each other in the games: Just Dance and Super Smash Bros Brawl. Whether members were redeeming themselves from past losses or a first time Wii Party attendee, everyone was eager to play. The winner from each round would move on to the next round. Even though the wait for one’s turn could be long, there were many other games that left everyone occupied. There were numerous activities such as, Twister, Jenga, Uno, Taboo, and Ping Pong that kept everyone entertained. In the end the winner was our fellow IP Vice President of Public Relations, Abel Magana. Besides the Wii Competition, we had a Best Dressed contest, in which a member from Paloma Valley Key Club, Jonathan Huynh won. Both individuals did a tremendous job expressing their enthusiasm and spirit, Abel with his video game skills and Jonathan with his elaborate dress wear.

We were excited how many people came out to support us, not just our club members, but also students from school and even another club in our division. I am glad to say it was successful as we got $94.00 out of it. Not only to say it was successful in raising money, but it also allowed everyone to have a blast dancing, bonding, playing games, and competing in our Wii Tournament. As we raised money for our club, this event brought smiles, laughter, and joy to everyone. This social allowed the students at our school to get a taste of Key Club. Hopefully, this Wii Party like the last, will help bring more people to join this organization. Seeing what a success the event was and what we had accomplished made me proud. This is one of our first events as officers and we are starting our strong.

Dancing our hearts out for Key Club

Let’s take pictures for the memorable

memories we will have together.

Kiwanis One Day is the national day of community service. It occurred on April at Lake Mathews. This is the

day where all Key Clubbers come together and all work together on a project and this year’s project was to clean up the

lake. Every Key Clubber had a specific task either ranging from picking up around the lake to planting trees. The lake

had all kinds of trash in and around it, ranging from underwear to a car tire you name it. When our division arrived at

the lake we were all astonished by how much just builds up over a period of time. Key Clubber Nam Nguyen said she

was “shocked by the abundance of cigarettes and the scattered amount of plastic and glass on the side of the road.” We

everyone arrived they all quickly worked together to accomplish their goal. At noon everyone got to take a break from

the hard work and got to relax, talk to friends, and eat lunch. After the day of hard work every single person was proud

of what they did, picking up trash wrapper by wrapper and planting trees, all of which to improve the environment

around them. Key Clubber Sally Tsai said she was “astonished that only a group of teenagers can do so much and in

such little time to affect our community in a positive matter.” All in all, I speak for every single Key Clubber at my

school that cleaning up the lake with everyone really impacts our society one step at a time and with everyone doing

what they can we all could purify and cleanse our society slowly yet surely.
