This past Saturday, Valhalla’s Key Club

participated in a river cleanup in Santee,

California. We each received a trash bag

and a trash picker upper and walked along

a trail that paralleled the river. Along this

trail, we focused on picking up piles of trash

that had gathered together. We made sure

to separate any potentially hazardous trash

that we found such as batteries, broken

glass, and syringes and put them in their

own buckets so that they wouldn't harm us

as we transported them in the bags or

contaminate landfills. It was a rewarding

experience.

River Cleanup

Ben Cardoza Valhalla High School

Grossmont High School Key Club spent one of their many Saturdays dedicating their efforts in

creating a cleaner San Diego. They did this, with the help of I Love a Clean San Diego, by

volunteering in a county wide movement to clean up the streets of San Diego. They ventured

through the streets of El Cajon, picking up every piece of trash they could find. They showed

that cleaning up the community is hard work, but with friends you could add some fun to it.

They spent countless hours laughing, cleaning, singing, and shuffling through the streets to

accomplish their goal of creating a better community. Eventually, they accomplished their goal

by collecting over twenty pounds of trash found in simply a 5 mile radius of their start point.

They proved that Key Clubs across the county strive to not only improve their community, but

that service to others can bring joy to oneself.

Kite Making and Flying

Sandy Liang

The Granite Hills Key Club have volunteered

at the Kite Flying Event on Saturday, May

31st hosted by the Alpine Kiwanis, who

served lunch to the community at Boulder's

Oak Elementary. The event ran from 1pm to

4pm. It was a good day because there were

a decent amount of wind that made kite

flying possible. The fellow Key Club

members helped the children put together

kites. They had a lot of fun seeing them fly

kites with their family. There were many

smiles and happiness on the children's

faces as well as their families. Everyone had

a good time at the event.
