    INTRO FROM YOUR LTG

    Thats right, Division 19, the

    summer months have finally

arrived! Now that the worries of

school and final exams are behind

us, all our cares seem to

evaporated by the sun as we relax

by the pool, go on vacations, and,

yes, even attempt to do our

    summer homework.

Of course, even as we flutter

    away these carefree months, we

    mustnt forget something very

    important: helping others. Many

    students volunteer at hospitals and

visit soup kitchens in the midst of

their summer fun, and it is never

too early to start planning for next

    years Key Club events!

    In Key Club International, the

    summer is very important. This

years ICON, which is in Memphis,

Tennessee this year, will take place

    from July 7th-10th, and, alongside

the dances and workshops, a new

    International Board will be

elected, so make sure you check

out the ICON recap in the August

issue! In this issue, you will also find

    information on Key Leader, the

    Districts Advocacy Focus, and

    Kiwaniss Worldwide Service

    Project: The Eliminate Project.

    KEY LEADER

    -written by Tom Kraeutler, Lieutenant

    Governor Division 7

Do you have a desire to improve

your leadership? Do you want to make

new friends with similar interests? What

would you do if you could do both of

these in the same weekend? No, this isnt

a sham, its Key Leader Weekend!

Key Leader is run by Kiwanis

    International with the mission of

    providing a life-changing experience

that inspires young people to achieve

    their personal best through service

leadership. The weekend is designed to

kick-start a lifelong process of personal

    leadership growth and development.

The program focuses on leadership in

    three communities: local, state/national

community, and global. It is a highly

esteemed program in New Jersey and its

greatness is directly related to the high

remarks of our District on the national

    level.

This year, Key Leader will be held

    Friday, December 10th through Sunday,

    December 12that Camp Lebanon in

Lebanon, New Jersey. Key Leader is

open to all students from grades 9-12

and, though it is run by Kiwanis

International, is open to ALL students, not

just Key Clubbers. Registration is $200,

although any attending Key Clubbers will

receive a $25 from the Kiwanis

    International Foundation and will pay

only $175.If you are interested, be sure to register

by October 15th to ensure your spot in

    the program. Contact your Lieutenant

    Governor for registration information and

if you have any questions theyre more

than ready to help! See you there!

    THE ELIMINATE PROJECT

On June 24th, at the Kiwanis

    International Convention in Las Vegas,

    Nevada, the Kiwanis International Board

    unveiled their Worldwide Service Project

for the 2010-2011 Kiwanis Service Year:

The Eliminate Project. This project is in

conjunction with UNICEF, and is an effort

    to defeat maternal and neonatal

    tetanus.

    Maternal and neonatal tetanus

are forms of tetanus that occur either

during pregnancy or shortly after birth,

and claims the lives of 60,000 babies and

    30,000 mothers from 40 different

countries annually. Fortunately, it is also

easily curable. Merely three doses of an

immunization can rid a person of this

disease. At 60 cents per immunization, it

costs only $1.80 to save a life. Kiwanis

International has set a worldwide goal of

$110 million to help fight this terrible

disease. That amount could save 61,111

    lives.

    However, just because The

Eliminate Project is the Kiwanis Wordwide

Service Project, it isnt exclusive only to

Kiwanis clubs. As Key Clubbers, we

    should help our parent organization

reach this goal, and work towards

ridding this world of one more tragic

    disease.
