UPCOMING EVENTS
•WHEN: December 30, 2013, 11:00 a.m.
•WHERE: Meet at Claim Jumper Restaurant, Grossmont Shopping Center
Come and join in the fun in helping to decorate the Kiwanis and many other floats for the Rose
Parade. Other than working on the actual floats and scaffolds themselves (these jobs are few
and can be very hard to get), most jobs actually include putting water tubes on cut single
flowers, cutting flower petals, transporting glue and other materials back and forth, and keeping
the general area and floors clean to help prevent hazards. Dinner will be provided at 6:30 p.m.
Seats will only be confirmed when both your medical forms AND money are received. Just
sending in your forms is NOT enough. There are only 170 seats total, including chaperones. See
steps below.
Meet at the Grossmont Shopping Center in La Mesa, in the Claim Jumper restaurant parking lot,
at 11:00 a.m. for roll call. Pick-up will be at the same location at approximately 2:30 a.m. Please
arrange a ride to be there on time! Believe it or not, advisors do not like sitting in the cold, dark night air waiting for late parents.
Steps:
1) Create a list of students and chaperones who wish to attend. Each club must have one
chaperone per 12 mixed gender students. This is not considered an overnight event since we do
not stay in a hotel. Once we have all registrations submitted, we will then count and may elect to
delete excess chaperones.
2) Fax all Medical and Consent Forms for students and chaperones ASAP to Marilyn at 619-478-
2622. Please call first so they can turn on the fax machine.
3) Create an Excel spreadsheet or Microsoft Word table with the following columns:Full Name,
School, Cell Phone, Parent Name, Emergency Phone and send it ASAP to Marilyn at:
[email protected]. Make sure your club's CHAPERONE INFO is also on this document. We must also account for their numbers.
4) Send payment ($15 per student, chaperones free) ASAP to: KYDS Club of San Diego, P.O. Box
472 La Mesa, CA 91944 with the name of the school in the memo line.* Payment can come from
the students or from your sponsoring Kiwanis club. Most clubs do budget for this project.
•WHEN: January 25, 2013, 10:00 a.m.
•WHERE: Crawford High School (tentative)
Come and elect your next lieutenant governor! This will be a joint event with Division 11!

In an email from Cecilia Li: I know, it seems like the term has just begun, but remember that in Key
Club, terms start in May. So... it's time to talk about elections. (Don't cry!)
Club Elections (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Editor): Club elections should be held
somewhere between January and March 2014. I have attached to this e-mail a resource created
by the P.I.E. Committee which explores different ways that clubs approach their club elections and
tips. Please note that club elections is different for each club according to its standard club bylaws.
There is no set way of holding elections. The "How to Conduct Club Elections" video tutorial (created
by 2011-2012 PIE Committee) can be found by clicking here, and also serves as a great resource to
give you an idea on how to run club elections. Please keep in mind that you should uphold the
integrity of Key Club International and conduct your club elections in a moral manner where each
individual gets a fair chance.
Lieutenant Governor Conclave: Just as club officers are elected, Lieutenant Governors for each
division are, as well! The position of Lieutenant Governor will be elected in January 25th, 2014 at
Conclave (the term "conclave" just means the election ceremony, basically equivalent to election).
The exact time and address of Conclave will be announced soon.
Candidate Training Conference: Since the position of LTG is so critical to the success of DIvision 31
Key Club, there is a special Conference dedicated to informing potential elects on running. If
anyone plans on running for the position of Division 31 Lieutenant Governor for the 2014-2015 term,
then they should try their best to attend CTC. It is not mandatory, but very, very highly
recommended. CTC will be on December 14th, 2013. It will take place in Vista, San Diego. The
address and time will be announced soon, but the time should be from around 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Come to this CTC to learn about the duties and responsibilities of becoming a Lieutenant Governor
as well as learn about the election process. I highly encourage all who are eligible to go (sorry,
seniors!). Please remember to register if you plan to attend CTC! The link is here.
For more information on how to run for Lt. Governor, also refer to the CyberKey (cnhkeyclub.org >
Officers > Running for Office > Running for Lt. Governor > Download Guide [blue button]).
District Office Candidate Training Conference: This is a mandatory training conference for those
seeking the position of District Governor, District Secretary, or District Treasurer. Nonattendance at
this required training will result in disqualification from the election process. This training conference
will cover the roles and responsibilities of the positions, challenges these leaders face, skills of
effective district leaders, and an overview of the election process. Candidates attending this
training may be eligible for reimbursed travel expenditures.
The District Officer Candidate Training Conference (DOCTC) will be held on January 19th, 2014 at
the CNH Kiwanis Professional Center (8360 Red Oak Street, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730). It will
most likely go from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Please remember to register if you plan to attend DOCTC!
The link will be released onto the CNH Cyberkey soon, and the deadline to do so is January 10th,
2014.

Our club picked up trash on a local highway. We met at school to distribute safety
vests, trash bags, and clampers, and our supervisors drove us to the site. It was a
successful event and we made our community a lot cleaner.
Saturday December 14th opened with Grossmont’s
Key Club collaborating with Patrick Henry’s student
body in giving young children a wonderful initiation
into their holiday break. Students from both schools
welcomed the children through cheering and the
creation of a human “tunnel” to stimulate their
excitement. The first hour featured members serving
children a pancake breakfast while helping the
cooks in the back prepare the food. After the meal
had concluded, face painting and artwork took
place outside with members assisting the children
and singing carols to maintain the positive holiday
mood. Several soccer games occurred
simultaneously with several students from Patrick
Henry joining in. Interrupting the many activities was
the arrival of Santa Claus, where children were
invited to sit on his lap and then receive a free toy
after doing so. Once every child completed every
moment of the wonderful experience, they
boarded their buses and headed on to the wonders
and excitement of their holiday break.
At a local Christmas Festival,
our club helped to make sure
the elementary school kids
have an enjoyable time. We
served breakfast to
elementary school kids.
Afterward we all supervised
and helped the children while
they played, got their faces
painted, and received
presents from Santa. It was
refreshing to be able to help
out those who don’t always
have the opportunities to
enjoy the holiday season. The
holiday season is all about
giving.
