The City of Palm Coast has expanded the water supply by drilling and constructing 5 new wells, with installation of raw water pipelines in the south zone of the City. This will provide the necessary source water to Water Treatment Plant 2 located at 50 Citation Boulevard to meet current and future demands. Phase 1 of the Southern Wellfield project consisted of the construction of a raw water main along the east side of Seminole Woods Parkway. Phase 2 completed the installation of the raw water main on Sesame Boulevard and installed pumps and equipment for the 5 wells.

PARKS & RECREATION – Alex Boyer, Director

Executive Summary: Fall programs are already filling up as we prepare for a number of new programs, including a

nature series for adults and youth and recreation programs for toddlers. The pool saw 699 visitors throughout the

week. The Palm Coast Tennis Center pavilion got a facelift this week with new picnic tables. The tables that were at

the tennis center then got moved over to the pool, where they are a much better fit. Parks & Recreation also got

revamped logos for the Department as well as the tennis center. These new logos are more consistent with the City’s

branding.

City of Palm Coast thanks its 10th Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup sponsors Palm Coast – The City of Palm Coast’s 10th Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup, to be held Saturday, Sept. 9, is being sponsored this year by nine generous sponsors who provide support that’s needed to make the annual event a success. This year’s sponsors include:

Florida Inland Navigation District (F.I.N.D.), which awarded the City a $5,000 grant to purchase cleaning supplies for volunteers. This is the seventh year F.I.N.D. has provided a grant, with the district’s contribution totaling $50,000 over the years.

Marineland Dolphin Adventure, which has donated $300 in gift certificates for volunteer prizes.

Ripple Effect, which donated a $110 kayaking eco-tour(s) as a volunteer prize.

Waste Pro, which has supported the Cleanup every year since it started in 2008, provides the temporary dumpsters for event-day collection.

Stone Engineering Group Inc., C.T. Hsu + Associates, P.A., Environmental Land Services, the Golden Lion Cafe each making a $100 donation.

Turtle Shack Cafe restaurant a $25 gift card. “The City of Palm Coast truly appreciates our sponsors for supporting the annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup, which is so important for keeping our trails and waterways clean and open for everyone including our wildlife to enjoy,” said City Administration Coordinator Denise Bevan, Coordinator of the Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup. “We could not be successful with this event without our dedicated community partners and faithful volunteers.” In recognition of our wonderful mascot, Walter Waterways, we are proud to announce the partnership with the Sea Turtle Hospital at Whitney Lab! On event day, experts from the Hospital will be present to teach about their efforts to rehabilitate, research and educate about these amazing creatures. We hope you can join us and learn about their amazing efforts. There’s still time to sign up to volunteer for the 10th Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup, so join mascot Walter Waterways and sign up today! Community volunteers will remove trash in and along the Intracoastal Waterway, its walkways and canals. Walkers can clean Palm Coast’s paths and trails, and boaters can work in saltwater canals and Intracoastal waters.

Page 18: City Manager’s WEEK-IN-REVIEW - Palm Coast, Floridadocs.palmcoastgov.com/.../citymanager/weekinreview/... · City Manager’s 8/25/2017 Palm Coast is excited to be 1 of 300 cities

Registered volunteers are also eligible to participate in a brand new fun cleanup game, Where’s Walter Contest. Our cleanup mascot has gone missing, and we know that he enjoys visiting the City’s beautiful parks. Walter has left us clues to help find him before time runs out. Contest rules and clues are available on Facebook and on the event website. Contest begins Saturday, Aug. 26, and ends on event day. The clean-up adventure will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 9 at Holland Park, 18 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast, where supplies will be distributed to commence the morning activities. Following the cleanup and trash drop-off, volunteers are invited back to the Community Center for refreshments and a special awards ceremony to recognize those who found the most unique “trash.” There will be lots of prizes this year, including gift certificates from our sponsors! Online registration will remain open until Sept. 8, www.palmcoastgov.com/icwc, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Palm Coast City Hall, 160 Lake Ave., and at Frieda Zamba Pool, 339 Parkview Drive, Palm Coast. Registration is also welcome on event day, but supplies will be limited; volunteer packages are guaranteed only for those who pre-register by Aug. 19th. Pre-registered volunteers may pick up their packages early at the Palm Coast City Hall Community Wing, 160 Lake Ave., on Saturday, Sept. 2, 9 to 11 a.m., as part of orientation beginning at 9 a.m. Pre-registered participants will receive supplies needed to tackle trash; T-shirts are no longer available. Feral or community cats are everywhere and become everyone’s problem. But

they don’t have to be! Sterilizing these cats are the number one priority to

keeping the population down. There are a number of low cost programs that aid

in getting these cats fixed at an affordable rate. If you have feral cats and would

like more information on the programs that are available – call your local humane

society or animal control agency. Community cats or cats that have been

abandoned by residents when they move are grouped into this problem and can

procreate as well. These cats, although they are friendly, can produce the same

way that ferals can and would need to be sterilized as well. All these cats would

receive an ear notch to identify which cats have been sterilized and which have

not.
