NEWS RELEASE – City of Palm Coast Contact: Cindi Lane, Communications & Marketing Manager 386-986-3708; cell 386-214-4729 July 20, 2018 Sons of the American Revolution presents Fire Service Medal to Palm Coast firefighter Palm Coast – Palm Coast Firefighter-EMT Travis Greco has been awarded the 2018 Fire Service Medal & Certificate by the Flagler Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution for his coordination and leadership of wildland fire training for the Palm Coast Fire Department and his efforts to oversee emergency preparedness training for all City employees. The award was presented Wednesday to Greco, a Palm Coast firefighter since 2016, by SAR President Randall Scott Morris and Awards Chairman David Kelsey. Several of Greco’s colleagues, including Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Forte, Battalion Chief Mark Valentik, Capt. Gary Potter and Lt. Andrew Woolwine, attended the awards presentation at Fire Station 25. Kelsey said the Sons of the American Revolution were pleased this year’s award recipient is a leader for training. “We realize that fire safety and service as a firefighter has become a very skilled profession – it’s very technical, and it requires a lot of training,” Kelsey said. “You need to have a plan.” “It’s always a privilege for our Chapter to recognize a distinguished firefighter from Flagler County, and in this case the City of Palm Coast,” added SAR President Morris. As a former wildland firefighter with the Florida Forest Service and volunteer firefighter with Flagler County Fire Rescue, Greco has extensive experience in fighting wildfires and responding to natural disasters across the country. He has a long history of sharing his knowledge about the federal Incident Command System and National Incident Management System, used for emergency preparedness and response during disasters, with other agencies. In his two years with the Palm Coast Fire Department, Greco has worked with fire administration to establish position-specific training for each member of the department for wildland fire training. He is working with City staff in areas of National Incident Management System/Incident Command System training and updating the City’s training program.
Greco also serves as the Fire Department’s liaison for the Florida Fire Chiefs Association, Mutual Aid.net, the Florida Forest Service, Flagler County Fire Rescue, and Flagler Beach Fire Department. In addition to being a trainer for the department, he is on the Wildfire Team and Fire Maintenance Team. Greco grew up in the Bulow area and graduated from Mainland High School and fire school at Daytona State College. Greco said he was humbled to receive the award, especially with the focus on the importance of training for wildfire and other disasters. “It helps the community,” Greco said. “That’s what we’re here for – to protect life and property. We’re here for the community.” The Sons of the American Revolution conducts its awards program annually. The organization is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit organization. The Flagler Chapter was organized in 1984, and the members are descendants of those early Americans who served in the Revolutionary War and established the United States. Its main goals are to maintain and preserve the institutions of American freedom, to promote patriotism, and to provide recognition for outstanding public service. Deputy Chief Forte said the City of Palm Coast is fortunate to have Greco with his experience. The expanded training program for firefighters and other City employees who have roles in disaster response will better prepare the staff for emergencies here, but also for response to other parts of Florida, if needed. “His work will have a long-lasting effect,” Forte said. “He’s getting the city ready.” For more information, contact Palm Coast Communications & Marketing Manager Cindi Lane at [email protected] and 386-986-3708.

Garbage, recyclables & yard trash must be placed at curb no later than 6 a.m. Palm Coast – The City of Palm Coast Customer Service Office reminds all residents to place their garbage, recyclables and yard trash at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day. The City’s garbage collection contractor, Waste Pro, has recently changed the routing of some routes. With the summer heat, the re-routing will allow employees to focus on heavier volumes earlier in the day. With that, customers may see a change in the time of day their garbage is normally picked up. However, the days of collection (Monday-Thursday OR Tuesday-Friday, with yard trash on Wednesdays) is not changing. “The City wants to ensure our customers receive the best service possible and don’t miss a scheduled collection,” said Customer Service Manager Cynthia Schweers. “So be sure to put your garbage and items for recycling out either early on the morning of your pick-up or the night before. Waste Pro begins collecting garbage at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday.” For more information on the City of Palm Coast garbage and recycling programs, including what materials can be recycled, pick-up of bulk items, and how to use the Doorstep Household Hazardous Waste program, visit www.palmcoastgov.com/trash. Issues with garbage service can be reported at that website, or by calling Customer Service at 386-986-2360.
July 19, 2018 Temporary road closure: Boston Lane on July 24 Palm Coast – The City of Palm Coast Public Works Department is planning a temporary road closure in the coming week as it replaces a drainage pipe. The City of Palm Coast appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and motorists during this important drainage improvement project. When one thinks of pet grooming, vanity may come to mind, but it’s vital to a domesticated animal’s well-being. Regular grooming is essential to keeping an animal happy and healthy. Regular grooming allows a pet owner to evaluate the animal’s skin, nails, eyes, ears, and coat. This is helpful in terms of addressing any conditions or diseases early on. Most owners avoid the grooming process because they think it either takes too much time and precision or they think it causes the animal too much stress. However, if an animal is trained from a young age that groom is not terrifying, then they will eventually become comfortable with the grooming routine. Flagler Humane Society (FHS) provides nail trimmings on a day-to-day basis. If you have any questions regarding Flagler Humane Society or how to properly groom a pet, be sure to contact them. Donation Opportunities: The Flagler Humane Society Thrift Store always accepts donations. They cannot take in any computers/printers or large appliances. Call 386-597-2839 and leave a message.
