Communications & Marketing This week’s social media focus was promoting National Preparedness Month for tropical weather – including frequent
updates shared from the Emergency Operation Center regarding Hurricane Florence. We also celebrated local businesses on
#NationalDayofEncouragement, reminding residents of the positive financial impact of shopping local. See below for the
Facebook Media Post of the Week! We also posted items to Instagram and Twitter and aired the Intracoastal Waterway
Cleanup awards ceremony on Facebook Live.
This week the Video Production Coordinator Tom Hanson was busy on location at the Palm Harbor Golf Course gathering
video footage for an upcoming promotional video being produced for the golf course. He also shadowed participating golfers
for just the right video and photos at the Senior Games event held at the course. Having taken lots of photos at last
weekend’s Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup, a short photo montage of the event’s highlights was also produced this week.
Digital Communications Coordinator Jason Giraulo had a busy week with graphic design. He’s working on an infographic
about stormwater projects, two new logos, a program for Mayor Canfield’s Farewell Reception (set for 2-4 p.m. Friday, Sept.
21 at City Hall), and a flier for the upcoming 90/90 Fitness Challenge. This week we staffed the Council Workshop and the
Sept. 11 commemoration held at the City Hall flag pole.
The new Fitness Challenge won’t start ‘til the New Year, but we’re already working on that and other events, including a
Mobility Week activity in early November.
A news release went out inviting residents to attend the Fire Department Transfer of Command ceremony on Sept. 27. Other
news distributed this week included a Road Closure on Empire Lane on Sept. 18 and the start of Family Kickball and the
REFIT Revolution Family Fitness program.

Recently, Flagler Humane Society (FHS) collaborated with the author of the popular children’s book, Perfectly Maggie, written by Meg Maguire. Maguire was a guest of the FHS radio show, “Speaking of Animals”, on WNZF 88.5 and discussed how her book promotes positive self-esteem in children through Maggie’s story and all the other dogs at Kind More Kennel. It was through these our discussions that we came to the consensus that pets can drastically impact children’s life, especially during more developmental periods. Having a pet, especially an active pet, encourages a more active lifestyle in children. The next time the family dog needs to talk a walk, it’s best to let children take responsibly of that task. Not only does this get children moving and away from a screen, but it also reinforces the importance of obligation and accountability. Donation Opportunities: The Flagler Humane Society Thrift Store always accepts donations. They cannot take in any computers/printers or large appliances. Call 386-597-2839 and leave a message. Call for our new store location where we will soon be collecting donations. “General Donations” can be dropped off anytime at your convenience. FHS appreciates all donations, especially those from our Wish List (available at flaglerhumanesociety.org/wish-list). You can also purchase items via the Amazon.com link on the FHS website and ship them directly to the shelter. Outreach Adoption Events: Don’t forget that FHS have volunteers and adoptable pets at Petco, PetSmart, Pet Supermarket and Tractor Supply in Palm Coast. Stop by and see our adoptable pets! Want to be a volunteer? Attend an orientation! Orientations are held at noon in the Humane Society education room every second Saturday of the month. Applications can be found on the FHS website. Interested in fostering? Contact our adoption specialist at [email protected]. Adoption Specials: Check out the FHS Facebook for upcoming adoption specials. Upcoming Fundraisers/Events: See the FHS Website for information on our upcoming events. Offered Services: The Flagler Humane Society has a variety of Subsidized Spay & Neuter Programs for members of the community that need to have their pets or community pets sterilized. Please call FHS at 386-445-1814, email [email protected] for questions. FHS has a Wellness Clinic for minor veterinary issues. Call 386-445-1814 for Appointments. Low Cost Vaccination Clinics are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month from 1pm-3pm. FHS also offers a “Pet Food Pantry” for those that are in need of assistance. Please call for more information. To keep up with Flagler Humane Society happenings – visit us on the FHS Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Website at www.flaglerhumanesociety.org, or via email at [email protected].
Elizabeth Swan is a beautiful approximately 5 years old female domestic short hair. She came to FHS as a stray with her litter of kittens. They were left outside to fend for themselves and this had caused them to be a little on the shy side. Elizabeth is fond of petting after a short get to know you period. She is a quiet cat that doesn’t seem to mind other cats. She is currently available for adoption along with a few of her children. If you are interested in Ms. Swan then you would be able to adopt her and get one of her children’s adoption fee waived!
