Communications & Marketing The Communications & Marketing Division responded to various media/public requests and coordinated advertising. News releases sent this week included Food Truck Tuesday (Aug. 15 event), Pre-registration opens for Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup (Sept. 9 event) and three traffic signal loops to be installed, causing lane closures on night of Aug. 8. The Division staffed the Council business meeting and workshop, coordinating all aspects of the Photo Contest winner’s recognition. Digital Communications posted this week’s Discover Palm Coast Radio Show podcast; listen here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/rumors-and-gossip-around-town/id1224613710?i=1000390497088&mt=2. Digital Communications also provided photos for the new FPL Service Center, created the survey and artwork for the “Name Our Mascot” for the Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup contest and completed graphic design including the August Food Truck Tuesday flier and Facebook header, a single-color version of “Rooted in Nature” logo and began work on the updated parks facility guide. The team met with Flagler County Emergency Management regarding a reprint of the Disaster Preparedness Guide. Our Public Relations Intern assisted in planning promotions for the Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup mascot, wrote and sent the Food Truck Tuesday news release, assisted with the Photo Contest winners display and worked on PPTs and video for the Virtual Citizens Academy project. Video Production videotaped and aired live the Council business meeting and prepared news and announcements for Palm Coast Television’s on-screen ticker tape. He assisted the interns with preparing finished video pieces for Virtual Citizens Academy modules and videotaped one of the welcome videos for the project. Script elements were developed and videotaping was done for a “Powering up a PEP Tank” video, a step-by-step training video for the Utility Department. The Video Production Intern edited a Food Truck Tuesday’s promo video; watch it here: https://youtu.be/fNpP7jynjnM. The intern also worked on video and PPTs for the Virtual Citizens Academy. Volunteers needed: Pre-registration opens for annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup Palm Coast – Everyone’s assistance is needed to help clean and protect our community's treasured waterways and adjacent trails! The City of Palm Coast is coordinating the 10th Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 9, and it’s now time to register to participate and to help name this year’s mascot, the sea turtle. This special event will pull together community volunteers to remove trash in and along the Intracoastal Waterway, its walkways and canals. Walkers can clean Palm Coast’s paths and trails, and boaters can work in saltwater canals and Intracoastal waters. The clean-up adventure will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 9, at Holland Park, 18 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast, where supplies will be distributed to commence the morning activities. Following the cleanup and trash drop-off, volunteers are invited back to Holland Park for refreshments and a special awards ceremony to recognize those who found the most unique “trash.” Pre-registration is available until Saturday, Aug. 19, on the Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup website, www.palmcoastgov.com/icwc, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Palm Coast City Hall, 160 Lake Ave, and at Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool, 339 Parkview Drive, Palm Coast. Registration is also welcomed on event day at Holland Park, and on the website through noon Sept. 8, but supplies will be limited; volunteer packages with supplies are guaranteed only for those who pre-register by Aug. 19. Pre-registered volunteers may pick up their packages early at the Palm Coast City Hall, Community Wing, 160 Lake Ave., on Saturday, Sept. 2, 9 to 11 a.m., as part of orientation beginning at 9 a.m. Pre-registered participants will receive a T-shirt, water bottle, trash bags, gloves, safety sheet and cleanup results form. Large volunteer groups are encouraged to participate in event orientation at City Hall on Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. Groups may also learn more about the Waterway Cleanup on the event website shown above. “The City of Palm Coast encourages everyone to register and volunteer in this wonderful event – our 10th annual cleanup,” said City Administration Coordinator Denise Bevan, coordinator of the Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup. “We would also like the community to help name the 2017 cleanup mascot, the sea turtle, by voting on Facebook or through the City website from August 5th through 10th.”
The City’s website is at www.palmcoastgov.com, and the City’s Facebook page is at www.Facebook.com/discoverpalmcoast. Vote for your favorite name between Aug. 5 and 10! Owning a pet is a huge responsibility and should not be taken lightly. Pets require more than just affection, they require medical exams every year, good nutrition, adequate exercise, and socialization. Of these socialization is the one responsibility that many owners have issues with. Pets should be introduced to different environments, people, and other pets at as young of an age as possible. This helps to train them to not fear people and to not become aggressive to other pets. Proper socialization can be done by bringing your dog to a dog park or pet friendly beach. You can bring your pet to pet friendly social gatherings and outdoor restaurants to aid in the human socialization. Socialization will not always stop your pet from developing animal or human aggressions but it is a step in the right direction of trying to prevent it.
