We are Easter people...
I would like to take this opportunity to wish the McAuley family a happy and
holy Easter.
I do hope as a family you got to experience and remember the suffering and pain
as well as the jubilation in the Resurrection during the Parish Easter
celebrations. Obviously it is easy for children to focus on Easter Eggs and the
parties. However it is our responsibility as Catholics to make sure they are aware
of the powerful story of Easter. It is truly the greatest time for our Church.
During Lent the children were constantly challenged to think about their lives
and think of things that they need to change. At the combined Parish Mass for
Catholic Schools week Fr Greg linked it to the gospel of the day by challenging
us to let Jesus into how hearts to discover what tables he would over turn (things
in our lives that we need to change).
On Holy Thursday the children took part in a powerful Liturgy that highlighted
the Passion of Jesus.
Tuesday morning the school visited the church to discover that Jesus had risen in
a powerful Liturgy. The day was then filled with fun activities, joy and
laughter. The children made Easter hats and paraded in front of the whole school
and many parents and grandparents. It was a great day of celebration to
acknowledge the risen Jesus.
The Easter season lasts for 40 days until the Ascension. I attended Mass outside
the Parish on Easter Sunday and the Priest told us that every morning when we
stir and wake it is like experiencing the new life of the risen Jesus. He suggested
we make the sign of the cross and thank God for each day before we get out of
bed.
