How do I choose my subjects?

This pathway booklet is designed to give you and your parents, information about subjects that you can choose to study at McAuley High School. At McAuley High School we provide opportunities for students to study at a level appropriate to their learning needs.

When selecting subjects, you need to ask yourself the following questions: What subjects do I or would I enjoy? Take time to read the subject descriptions. What are my chances of success in these subjects? Think about your results in assessments so far, talk to your subject teacher. Do I have entry requirements for this subject? Look at the entry requirements for each subject you want to study. Where does this subject lead to? Is this subject a University Entrance subject or does it lead to a different pathway? i.e. Vocational Pathway What qualifications do I need for tertiary study and/or for the work that I hope to do when I leave school? Use the Dream Catcher and Career Quest computer programs in the Library and Careers room. Talk to Mr Zimri, the Careers Advisor, your Dean, or Mrs Fiaola, the Careers Assistant. It is especially important to check the careers that require you to take Mathematics and Science in the Senior School. Have I discussed my choices with my parents/caregivers, careers staff and teachers?
