Information and invitation to guide you in your faith journey

One of the goals for the Adult Education Team for2012 is to inform the congregation as to events across the SD Synod of the ELCA.

The South Dakota Synod is one of the sixty-five (65)synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a church so deeply and confidently rooted in the Gospel ofGod’s grace that we are free to give our lives joyfully inwitness and service.

Our Vision: “That All May Be Fed”Nurtured in Word and Sacrament, God sends us to

become a joyful sign of God’s abundant blessing as we:

proclaim the Good News of Jesus to every hungering soul,

share compassion with all who suffer, and

feed all whose bodies lack nourishment.

There are opportunities for you to get involved inSynod-related activities, including:

Mission Interpreter Training. Saturday, April21 (9:00am – 12:00pm), Scandia LutheranChurch, Centerville. A Mission Interpreteris someone who shares stories and messagesabout ministries of your congregation, thesynod, and the ELCA in ways that thank, inform, teach, inspire, connect, and inviteeach person to grow in their relationshipwith Jesus Christ and in their giving of time, talents, and resources to do God’s work.

Stewardship Workshops. Sunday, April 22(2:00pm), Hope Lutheran Church, SiouxFalls. At these workshops, participants willbenefit in the following ways:

Gain a better understanding of how stewardship ministry can assist people withtheir faith in Jesus Christ.

Learn and try out practical tools and ideasfor use in this year’s stewardship ministry.

Discover how your stewardship ministry canbecome a way to renew the life of the wholecongregation.

Catch a vision for what would happen in your congregation if, like the Macedonians, members “gave themselves first to God.”

Be inspired by a gifted teacher of the churchand come home with new energy for the workof ministry.

SD Synod Assembly. June 8–9, Our Savior’sLutheran Church, Sioux Falls.

W/ELCA Synodical Convention. June 15–16,Lutheran Memorial Church, Pierre.

Glocal (Global/Local) Mission Gathering. June 22–23, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church,Sioux Falls. God’s work in mission always propels us to encounter the neighbor, particularly in the stranger, ELCA GlobalMission Gatherings equip us for God’s workin today’s global and local realities, as wellas their “glocal” intersections. What is mission? Who is the neighbor? Let’s considerthese questions together as they relate to ourmigrating and immigrating world. Come, join us for mission conversations around therealities of the world we live in today.

Workshops include (not limited to): Cross-Generational Engagement

It is no surprise to Christians that atthe center of the Incarnation is the person of Jesus Christ –God in flesh made manifest. But it might be a stretch for someChristians to imagine that the promise that God, The Word, has become flesh is not only in a person, but in a place –in the creation. This word, where we are in the here and now, is a manifestation of God’s commitment to be fully present in the places of our lives. My conviction is that the geographiesof our lives are as fully an expression of God’s incarnation inthe world as are the people and creatures with whom we sharethis world.”

CCONSIDERONSIDER AA GG IFTIFT THATTHAT LLASTSASTS FFOREVEROREVER !!While there are many opportunities to fulfill the mission of Holy Cross Lutheran Church,

some opportunities call for monies not available from our regular giving to the Mission & Ministry or Building Mortgage & Maintenance Funds. Just a few examples of those are “Dollars for Scholars” or “Quilters” and “Prayer Shawl” ministries.

The Holy Cross EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND allows the church to enhance the mission outreach and ministry of the congregation. The good news is that the funds given to the EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND are perpetual funds, which means the principal is never spent! Only the earnings can be distributed. So when you give to the EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND, your monies continues to support the mission and ministry of Holy Cross FOREVER.FOREVER.

To give to the EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND, just specify “EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND”

under “Other” option on your offering envelope.
