ABSTRACT & BIBLIOGRAPHY (due 2.4)

Page  2

ABSTRACT  Summarize  your  en<re  project  in  250  words  or  less.    Include:

-‐-‐the  problem  statement  and  hypothesis  -‐-‐a  quick  summary  of  the  procedure,  without  all  the  details  -‐-‐a  brief  recount  of  the  results  -‐-‐a  short  explana<on  of  what  the  results  mean  -‐-‐a  statement  of  real-‐world  applica<on

BIBLIOGRAPHY  Afach  your  bibliography  to  this  page.      It  must  be  typed.      Things  to  remember:

-‐-‐Use  www.cita<onmachine.net  to  create  your  bibliography.    -‐-‐Cita<ons  should  be  in  alphabe<cal  order,  using  the  first  lefer  of  the  cita<on.    -‐-‐Each  cita<on  should  include  a  brief  annota<on  that  explains  what  you  learned  from  that  source.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF RESULTS (due 1.28)

Page  3

1.  Explain  how  your  experiment  <es  to  the  real  world.

2.  What  are  some  lessons  that  your  experiment  demonstrates  that  could  transfer  to  real-‐world  science  projects,  problems  or  issues?

3.  Cost/benefit  thinking  involves  examining  the  cost  of  a  solu<on  against  the  benefits  gained.    Some<mes,  the  benefits  gained  from  a  solu<on  are  not  worth  the  cost  of  paying  for  the  solu<on.    Think  about    your  project’s  connec<on  to  the  real  world.            a.    Describe  the  possible  benefits  from  research/results  similar  to  yours.    How  would  society  benefit?

   b.    Describe  the  poten<al  costs  from  research/results  similar  to  yours.    How  much  would  it  cost?        (cost  does  not  always  mean  money)

   c.    Explain  how  the  costs  compare  to  the  benefits.    Which  is  greater,  and  why?

DATA ANALYSIS & CONCLUSIONS (due 1.21)

Page  4

DATA  ANALYSIS    1.   What  pa=ern(s)  or  trend(s)  do  you  see  when  examining  the  averages  and  the  graph  from

your  experiment?

2.   What  outliers  occurred?

3.   What  might  explain  why  the  outliers  occurred?

4.   What  unexpected  things  happened  during  your  experiment?

CONCLUSIONS    1.   Does  the  data  gathered  support  the  hypothesis?

2.   What  do  the  results  mean  to  you?

3.   What  problems  or  errors  did  you  encounter  during  the  experiment?

4.  How  would  you  redesign/improve  the  experiment,  assuming  you  had  to  do  it  again  but  befer?              (addi5onal  trials  do  not  count  as  redesign)
